When did this thread get so derailed? I know many people are cheering for other projects, but I'd recommend you guys to discuss relevant topics in each thread. I know I'm not one to tell, but it's beginning to feel like that other time that we got like a zillion pages of arguing, I thought that was enough for this thread.

I think it's time to stop feeling this as a competition. Actually different people are working on different projects, they are public and do different things, so good with it.
There's no need to cheer for someone or snob others.
This is not the spirit of the dev community, come on.
Also, nobody is forced to publich his work as open source.

I don't know why you can claim anti-piracy even though Relys is using devmenu.
I think Relys addresses this best himself (relevant point highlighted for your convenience).

Also, I am sick and tired of hearing these piracy "debates":
  1. It's not a moral issue it's an ethical and most important an legal issue.
  2. Taking away revenue from developers is wrong. We have to eat too you know. If you don't like what we make, then don't play our games.
  3. Trying to rationalize piracy by saying "oh it only hurts the big evil game corporations" is a crock of shit and just goes how little you know about business and economics.
  4. Telling developers that they are hypocrites for not enabling piracy but personally downloading a movie, game etc. every once in awhile just goes to show how ignorant you are. Pirating for personal use and enabling piracy for millions is a completely different situation.
  5. Insulting developers when you don't get your way isn't helping your case. It may work when your mommy won't buy you what you want, but we could care less about your "opinions".

If OSKA gets released and eventually does get patched to allow unsigned CIA loading. Karl devs mentioned they might open source theirs as well (or was it the guy who made rxTools that said this?). But we'll see I guess. Or at least I think I've seen one of them mention that.
I believe both parties have indicated that they'll do this. Roxas has said that he doesn't care about piracy, and that he intends to make his work open source "at some point".

At this stage though, it seems both parties are going to wait until someone else opens the proverbial floodgates first.

Yeah, i personally do not care, but i'm intelligent enough to avoid people to be able to pirate as hell, even if for now this stops homebrew too in my project.
There are some things that are not worth to be public yet. Obviously, if someone pops up and distributes them open-source there will be no point to keep them for myself. I think this is KARL point of view too.

Thank you!

I realy like working valid eShop cia on cfw, but what i wait for is working retail cartridge with savegame export/import for any Firmware Version working with o3DS/n3DS :)

Interchangeable Feature to import/export ticket.db between sys/emuNAND would be great too.

If this gets ported to use MSET/Spider and boots into a 9.x emuNAND reliably, it's not really an inconvenience. Using MSET takes all of 10 seconds, Spider ~20 (depending on your setup). At the moment, everything aside from PBT-CFW is essentially the 3DS equivalent of TN-HEN for PSP.
PBT-CFW is no different, it just doesn't use a redNAND.

All publicly known projects are the same, none of them run at boot if that's the point you're trying to make.

Either your reading and comprehension skills are atrocious, or you're so blinded by your own preconceived notion of what's going on that you're oblivious to the reality in front of you. Dude seriously, wtf.

ARM9 Kernel Branch is open, you can take a looksie here. If you want to test, feel free. Payload is under data/payload.bin, just does the same framebuffer stripe murder I demoed earlier when I first got ARM9, so nothing special.
Goof job!
By the way, I want to refer your source code to improve OSKA, but you don't have any license. Can you license your software under a manifest license?
(e.g. License bootstrap in LGPLv3.)

They already have released 6 alphas.
What he said still stands, this is not a valid counter point.

Let's gather some data in order to make an accurate comparison.

KARL3DS crew, if you had released public alphas/betas for testing, approximately how many would have been released?

To put it another way, approximately how many individual builds have been made so far?

To judge comparative progress between the two projects, we can use the following formula. We take the approximate number of builds made during the development of KARL3DS thus far and divide it by 25 (the amount of days this thread has been open). We then multiply that number by 5 (the amount of days the OSKA thread has been open).

haha. Nope. Perhaps you are a little to young to understand and read between the lines :)
There's no need to be condescending, it was clearly a joke.

Uh, does this mean this project is now completely open source, or just the bootstrap?

Hundreds. :P

We wouldn't have released betas for arm9 stuff, since they wouldn't have been required for what needed to be done. How many individual builds? I think we had about six commits between public and what we just released. Who cares about progress between teams, though? We really need to clear the tension between these projects, and the community needs to be willing to do that, too.

Also no, we're absolutely not fully open-source since anything past this point will contribute directly to piracy.

Okay, maybe I got off on the wrong foot. How about this instead, they released (at that point) 6 alphas - now 9. Each time with a reasonable amount of progress. The quote that everyone keeps grabbing and using against me, was to illustrate the fact that progress IS being made, and the project isn't in fact dead weight.
