thats why they are keeping the FIRM patching closed source......yeah it doesnt make it impossible, but it raises the bar from a relative noob coder referencing 3Dbrew to enable piracy to someone that really could/should of just done it by themselves or with the OSKA team
I'm not trying to start something here but when these Devs here say "It can't do piracy" Then there is someone always wanting to prove them wrong. I would bet maybe month or 2 after release piracy on KARL will be a thing

Best thing for you guys to do. You showed the video it works very good job guys everyone gets a A++ now close the thread and bury it on a computer that's not connected to the internet so people like Govany can't steal it

Just give up on trying to get them to allow it here. From what I've read OSKA will be the open source equivalent to this and all of it will be open source. They won't allow unsigned stuff either, but it will be easier to "patch" that to allow it instead instead of wasting your time trolling the Karl devs to open source theirs.

If OSKA gets released and eventually does get patched to allow unsigned CIA loading. Karl devs mentioned they might open source theirs as well (or was it the guy who made rxTools that said this?). But we'll see I guess. Or at least I think I've seen one of them mention that.

What's this OSKA I been hearing about?

It's a fork of bootstrap portion of Karl. It probably won't contain all the features that Karl will have though. Any features they have will be developed independently from Karl and will be open source. How far it will get and how fast it will get there is hard to see a the moment. Kinda early. But it does seem to be making some good progress. Looks like they already got Arm9 hooking achieved in their latest alpha test.

gamesquest1 Me and you had I convo I while back maybe 8 months ago. If you remember the topic it was about releasing the CFW that everyone was holding and I also called a lot things that did happen. Downgrading, CFW, Rom loader(Devmenu). It all happened didn't it?

So why should this be any different

I'm really not trying to come off as a dick but there should be no half measures. If your going to make something that in the eyes of nintendo is illegal. Then go all the way

im not saying its any different, im saying a better route for anyone with the capabilities to do this sort of work, they should help out with OSKA instead, and tbh all these kinds of things are going to happen "eventually" like saying the XBOX one will be hacked at some point.......yeah, at some point there will be free rom loaders all around, KARL3DS releasing or not, it will happen at some point

I'm not sure if any hacks allow this already and I couldn't find the answer anywhere so I'll just ask here.

Will it ever be possible for us to skip the step where we need to always use cubic ninja or oot to load a hacked kernel or can a permanent mod be made to the sysnand that bypasses the security checks? I understand the chances of bricking your console will probably increase exponentially but the added convenience may be worth the risk.

If this gets ported to use MSET/Spider and boots into a 9.x emuNAND reliably, it's not really an inconvenience. Using MSET takes all of 10 seconds, Spider ~20 (depending on your setup). At the moment, everything aside from PBT-CFW is essentially the 3DS equivalent of TN-HEN for PSP.

Release this and do you really think it would be piracy free. Yeah you guys keep on thinking that I'm sure geohot didn't want any piracy on his CFW that didn't work out so well. Something like this is nice to show "What we can do" but I would never release this if I cared about piracy as much as you guys do because you know there is some asshole lurker around here just waiting for you to release this so he could patch your FIRM and enable piracy. I'm no coder but it wouldn't be that hard.

I would also like to note that Smea said that cubic ninja could not do kernal access. Well you guys proved him wrong and you think there won't be piracy because you coded it that way or implanted DRM I find it very funny almost like a bad joke.

Please don't lecture about what you don't understand. :P

If it's so trivial to patch our stuff for piracy, why hasn't anyone patched Gateway to not require their DRM dongle? Why has no one released stable CFW in the last few years?

smealum knew exactly what he was saying. None of the exploits in ninjhax gained access to any kernelmode. That did not account for any future exploits which he would have no part in - at that point, Cubic Ninja is just an entrypoint, you can use it for anything you want. The only part of this that smealum has had a hand in is giving everybody an entrypoint.

Personally, I think you should stay closed source. If you start opening up your source now just because of OSKA, it suggests you never really believed any of the ideals you based the 'anti-piracy - closed source' decisions on. Like, shit. Just keep doing what you're doing. Let OSKA be OSKA, let KARL be KARL - and don't be bitches about it, because you guys made these decisions. None of us did. The decision to go closed source was yours entirely. Don't insult us by going back now on the only justification you've ever used for it, 'anti-piracy', like it suddenly doesn't matter anymore.

If there is already a fully working public implementation then there's no harm in opening ours. The damage has already been done.

If everyone is staunchly opposed to that idea, I guess we won't, then?

If OSKA manages to have full ARM9 support (for both O3DS and N3DS), there is no reason to keep firmlaunchhax close-sourced.
Ppl need to stop dreaming. Let it happen first, then talk :)

Both Oscar and Karl are still in the womb, let's not decide their careers before they're born ;)

They already have released 6 alphas.
Number of alphas means nothing. I released several versions of my ARM11 kernel test utility but I never distinctly numbered them. Not to mention that they started from my halfway point (and for the most part, yifan lu's because I based my work on his), they never had to gain ARM11 kernel, because I openly released that, and willingly so. It only took me about 6 days from when I initially got ARM11 kernel to get firmlaunch hax working, or 2 days if you don't count the days I tuned ARM11 kernel. They still have a long way to go with other stuff as well, they will have to get SD access working properly, firm launching, all that fun stuff.
