Windows or Steam OS?

I'm considering using dual boot on the thing, preferably by partitioning half of the eMMC so the SSD is untouched. There's a few things I'd like to play that are unlikely to get Linux support right out of the box and having the option to swap over on a whim is always welcome.

I'll stick with SteamOS. Seems to have "gold" or higher proton compatibility for all games id like to play

I'll definitely stick to Arch Linux / SteamOS and I'm so glad they ship it like that and that they helped make Proton so great over the years.
Bringing Steam to Linux and porting all own games was the first big step for Linux gaming as a whole.
Starting off with Proton was the second.
The Steam Deck is the third and it will be a massive one.

Many tutorials will spawn out of nowhere telling any newb how to setup RetroArch, Dolphin, office apps, Lutris and god knows what else under Linux and it'll be the first time a really big (and growing) user base will get in contact with Linux and use it as the main OS for gaming. Great times ahead and I'm glad to always have played around with Linux ever since so I will get the most out of my Steam Deck when it arrives*.

I will wait a bit and just run SteamOS. If I can't play certain titles, I may go Windows 10. Or, use a bootable drive for Win10 at home.

I’m planning on dual booting at first.

Current plan is to rely on Steam OS for games and just use Windows for some non-linux software, so probably 100GB for Windows and the rest Steam (512GB model).

The Steam Deck will hopefully also be replacing my laptop when travelling so it's not exclusively a games machine.

If I find Steam OS a pain though, I will switch exclusively to Windows.

Steam OS only. That farther I can be from Windows the better.
