Gaming Windows 7 RTM

3 days to go. I'm nabbing the build and upgrading my vista sp2 as soon as it's out. I have the whole drive backed up with norton ghost in case something goes wrong.

Excuse me, but what does RTM stand for?

RTM stands for release to manufacturing. Meaning development is complete, any bugs microsoft discover afterwards will be fixed through windows update and service packs. Wikipedia has a good article on software release cycle.

I'll just stick with build 7100.

But I really need to get my speakers to reconize it....

I got the release candid of windows 7 as second boot but When I found out my Internet didn't constantly disconnect kept using it. I still have till march 2010 before windows shuts-down every two hours and When this happens I´ll just install a crack

still happy with XP, see no reason to change.

until none of the software is backwards compatible it's a relic just like win98

name a single piece of software (not a game) that doesn't run on XP.
This!

HOLY SHIT!!
That looks fucking awesome!

Have been using Windows 7 since the beta, when I was dual booting it with XP, now running RC1 as the main OS on my PC rig, and Boot Camping with my Mac Mini. Ordered 2 copies of home premium @ half off from M$ for $100 total, so I should be good, hope it's not too problematic to go from RC1 to RTM.

If you mean upgrade from RC1 to RTM, then you can't do that from what I read. Upgrading from buggy code to a more stable release is just asking for trouble anyway. You would be better off doing a clean install.

Buggy code? How come? I've been using the unstable windows 7 releases and have had no problems whatsoever.

@Edhel, I plan to do a clean install, however we'll see how it validates a prior license, as I no longer have a copy of XP.

Same here. I haven't had any problems so far.

A simple google search will show that it's possible to run Halo 2 on XP with a few modifications. It's not like it uses directx 10 or any Vista only feature. Microsoft choose to restrict it to try and sell more copies of Vista just.

This is exactly what I thought until I tried Winsdows 7 RC 7100 and found that the majority of my games ran faster, the OS booted and rebooted a lot quicker, it was more stable and more efficient. I have also found some programs such as Vmware work a lot better to and allow me to make use of resolutions that always failed in XP.

GTA IV no longer slows to a crawl after 30 mins of play, some games that had graphic issues no longer have them and some old games that used to crash on XP no longer crash.

I will never go back to XP and I have pre ordered the full version of Windows 7 Professional. For those planning to use a crack on Windows 7, great way to support such a great new OS, well done!

It sucks that there is no discount on the upgrade version of Ultimate. I pretty much want to burn Microsoft to the ground for that. But if I do get the upgrade I'd just do a clean install of it using a pirated disc and then use the upgrade key, which should work.

I've been happily using Windows 7 since it first came out in January.

And I'll happily pirate the holy mess out of it.

Today Microsoft announced that Windows 7 has been Released to Manufacturing. Bit delayed by the original estimate date, but not by much.

It was also announced when OEMs and technet subscribers can get their copies. August 6th is the earliest release, though I suspect it will be leaked well before that.
