Hacking Will updating the 3DS cause an R4i NDSi LL Revolution to be blocked?

So I just got a 3DS with Mario Kart 7 on it, and it asked me to update, which I did.
The system came with a "R4i NDSi LL" R4 clone, and it's working quite well at the moment after updating its TTMenu.
However, the guy who sold me the system told me that it is very dangerous to update as the card may be blocked.

I've tried reading the stickies but there's been no mention of my R4 clone in the compatibility list.

Since I plan to buy things from the shop and play online and stuff, can I do so without having the 3DS update?
I have loads of games on my R4 now, and it would be disappointing for them to be all lost since my card might get blocked.

Yes it will be blocked.

You'll need a DSL or unupdated DSi to update your card IF a bootloader update ever comes out for it.

Ah, such a shame.
I am safe if I just isolate myself from online, right?
Or maybe there is a way I can go online without having to update?
Also there apparently IS an update for V.3.0.0-5i on the site.
How do know what version my 3DS is running?

There is a way to be able to go in the eShop, and having a working flashcard but that means you'll need to buy a new flashcard.

A good and cheap one is the Acekard 2i.
It only costs 12 bucks and you can keep your DS games and savedgames from the R4.

Just switch the cart software and you're good to go.
