I have WiiFlow Lite 5.2.0 running my 4.3U Wii. I'm able to successfully run Wii & GameCube games, but I can't figure out how to use Neek2o to launch WW/VC games via Emunand. Could someone please help walk me through this? Thanks!

I should add that I've read the "wiiflow-mod-and-emunand" post, but it seems like some of this information may be outdated (I would have posted a link but GBATEMP won't let me due to being a new member).

on pc:
did you use modmii to make a emunand and neek2o folders/files?
did you install your game wads to your emunand?
did you copy your emunand folder and put it in usb:/nands ?

on wii via wiiflow 5.2.0:
did you go to main settings and select emunand settings?
did you choose your emunand (change it from default to your emunand folder)?
did you choose emunand as your source from the source menu?
do your game covers show? if not you may need to go to home menu and reload cache.

if you made it this far and your game covers show properly. you really only need neek2o for a handful of games. most games can be played simply by clicking on the play button.
for the handfull that need neek2o. you would simply select the game. go into its settings. and set use neek2o to on or yes and then back to your game and click play. it will take slightly longer to boot one of these games as wiiflow needs to launch neek2o and neek2o needs to init and then launch your game.

@fledge68 - Your questions helped actually. Glad to hear this will work in theory if I follow the steps in that order. I'll give this a try tonight and report back.

I was eventually able to get WiiFlow setup with an emunand, but I’m unable to launch anything from the emunand unless I use neek2o.

If I launch a WW/VC game without neek2o then it just boots me back to the system menu. If I launch it with neek2o though it works perfectly.

I’d prefer to not have to go through every WW/VC entry and manually set it to use neek2o.

Any thoughts on how I can fix it so that I can launch WW/VC games without needing to have WiiFlow launch with neek2o?

Hmmm i see you can launch wii games so you must have cios. You could be using the wrong cios. Or maybe you need to use cert.sys extractor but i doubt it.

Which cios should I be using and how would I change it?
Yes, Wii & GameCube games launch and work great.

do you use a sd card?

if so open wiiflow_lite.ini with a text editor (notepad++) and under [DEBUG] set sd_write_log=yes.
now run wiiflow and try to boot an emunand game without neek2o.
when it boots you back to system menu you should now have a file on your sd card root name wiiflow.log
open it and copy and paste it here for me to see.
it should help us figure out whats going on.

your log looks good.
I did notice you have wiiflow set to use IOS58. when wiiflow is set to IOS58 it has to reload to cIOS249 or 250 to boot the game. for a lot of users this causes game boot problems because the USB drive has to be unmounted and remounted and for some reason the USB drive doesn't remount fast enough or correctly or something so wiiflow can't boot the game and returns to system menu. most of the time this affects booting wii games but strangely it doesn't for you.

anyway I want you to try this:
start wiiflow.
go into main settings>startup settings and set force cios to on/yes. when it says rebooting press 'b' or 'a' to reboot wiiflow.

wiiflow will now be running with cIOS all the time and have no need to reload from ios58 to cios and no need to unmount and remount the usb hard drive.

and by the way these 2 lines are not a error:
emu nand path = usb1:/nands/€¥HÀ
saves nand path = usb1:/nands/€¥HÀ

its just a gprintf mistake at output printing. the actual paths are fine. and i have fixed this back in march.

@fledge68 - That sort of worked. I set it to Force cIOS = On but that then that resulted in Wii Flow crashing.
So I had to delete the Wii Flow save file.
I went back in and set the cIOS from Auto to 249.
It crashed again so I deleted the Wii Flow save file again.
I then went back in and set the cIOS from Auto to 250 and that fixed it for me.
Does that mean anything to you? Do you think I initially set something up wrong?
Thanks again!

Also, I'm curious about how saved games work. Is there any way to have Emunand games save to the system memory and use the saves that already existed on my Wii for these games (I purchased them legitimately and have been playing them for years).

Or... is there a way that I could just store ALL my save files on the USB drive.

...it seems like right now my Wii games save to the System memory, my Gamecube games save to the SD card via Nintendont, and my WW/VC games save to the Emunand on the USB drive. Mostly curious how this all works so I can maintain them.

glad you got it working. your cios 249 must be corrupted. it shouldn't cause wiiflow to crash. but 250 is fine and actually a base 57 is best. you might try reinstalling cios249 though.

emunand games can not save to system memory (real nand). the saves dump feature in wiiflow only dumps wii game saves to emunand.
your options are:
1. make a new emunand with a nand dump with wiiflow (be sure to have set up a new nand folder and select it in wiiflow first otherwise you will just copy over your current emunand) this will copy all of your system memory (real nand) to make a new emunand.
2. use savegame manager gx to copy your game saves to your emunand. you will have to do each game individually and you might have to copy to sd first and then copy that to sd. im not sure its been a while since i used that app.
3. use usbloader gx to copy your gamesaves to emunand. i believe it has an option to do that for wiiware/vc games. i could be wrong.

#2 would be the best i think. here's a little webpage i wrote that might be helpful.
https://sites.google.com/site/wiiflowiki4/savegame-manager-gx

here's a link for usbloader gx #3 above that will help - https://gbatemp.net/threads/usbloadergx-copying-saves.450381/

ALL saves on Emunand is not recommended. not all wii games work with a save on emunand.

Do you know of a guide that lists out the steps to reinstall cios249?
It would be ideal if I didn’t break everything while trying to fix a problem that isn’t really even causing a problem for me ;)
Also, just out of curiosity... what is the purpose of having both cios249 & cios250?
How can I check that I have cios250 base 57 installed? Can you tell that from the logs that I previously posted?
Thanks!

d2x cios installer should be able to install just for 249?
having 249 base 56 used to be the main one to use and 250 base 57 was used for a select few of wii games that didn't work with 249 base 56. but now as of 2018 base 57 seems to be the ideal one to use. it seems to work with almost all games. @Cyan recommends it and i agree.
i can tell what you have installed by the log file you posted here:
Loading cIOS map
Found d2x base 56 in slot 249

Any idea how my cios249b56 ended up corrupted?
Is that a remotely common thing?
Did I possibly install in the wrong order or do something incorrect?
Is there a way to set something to default to 250b57 so I can align with your’s and Cyan’s recommendations?

Thanks!

no idea. most likely a bad install most likely.

either use the installer again, and overwrite your slots with the new content, so you will have this :

1)
249 : d2x base 57
250 : d2x base 56 <-- this one is rarely needed now, only one game requires it (spyro and the NFC portal)
as for the d2x version, I'd recommend either v8 final or v10 r52 if you are on vWii.

now you have the default slot used by usbloader (slot249) with base57.

2)
don't reinstall anything, and just tell your usbloader to use slot250 instead of the default slot249.
Like you might understand, having a cIOS installed is not enough. you need to specifically tell your currently running program to use it !

3)
Installation of the cIOS can sometime fail.
the only issue I've noticed if you have a corrupted install is the wiimote always lose sync (completely !) from the console, and you'll have to press red button again on sysmenu to resync.
I didn't know emuNAND could have issue with a bad install, while still working fine on realNAND (wii games).
just install the new or same cIOS over it, don't delete the old slot, it'll overwrite it.

@Cyan - Thank you! I had originally watched a YouTube video which told me to use all sorts of incorrect settings with d2x cios installer. Between @fledge68, you, and https://wii.guide I was able to properly reinstall cios base 57 into 249, cios base 56 into 250, and cios base 58 into 251. They all work and I’m not having any of the issues I was initially.

Cheers!

Hi all. Borrowing this thread. Im trying to run wiiware and virtual console games off my emunand on my sd card. It boot up with 'Dsi Exception Occurred' everytime. I have to restart my console after that. It boot up the games fine with neek2o though.

Im running d2x v10 r52 cios, slot 250 base 57 as default, extracted my own emunand via wiiflow lite 5.3.0 beta 8 and on 4.3u firmware. Games tested are World Of Goo and Super Mario 64. Solutions? It seems i have to rely on neek2o for now. Thanks.

In wiiflow there is no default cios. You will have to set ios for each game to 250. You can change the cios wiiflow uses in startup settings but thats not always the one the game will use.

I already set it to force cios 250. Well i didnt know games will not always use that cios. Anyway I even tried set the games individually to use 250. Same result with 'DSI Exception Occurred' error :(
