But too many posts from you to others led me to believe what I do. I respect the scene as is, and I am sure if you just said, I need donations to cover over head, then I am sure people would have donated. The scene in my many years has been very genorous to those that help.

I generally try to keep quiet, stay nice and avoid name calling but... WTF You whining ninny! PPL didn't DONATE, they paid money to keep getting their covers. I didn't have a huge problem with it. It IS an awesome site and if you want to make a profit fine by me - but call a spade a spade. And the naive folks who stick up for it saying it's only to pay for bandwidth... who cares? Ignorance isn't a crime, it's just annoying lol

If i re-open the site for members only , people will bitch about free sites , the other sites will download the covers from the site and put them up on theirs and boast free downloads even though my site also has free downloads but somehow theirs are better because they got the covers from my site.

If i keep it closed im cheating people.

If i make it free , everyone jumps on the site , crashes the server and i lose the other 4 sites i have on the same server,one of them being a business that cost me about 300 euro because of the server being suspended last weekend due to too many resources being used.

I tried to help out , and it seems i failed , im not paying for a site that i have spend hours and hours and hours coding out of my own pocket so that when it goes down i can lose more money.

There will always be people to complain. It´s rather sad your just taking the site down. I gave money and agree with paying for the time you put into this. Let people speak and you should just keep your mouth shut and continue to do what you have been on the site. It´s a great resource. Immature though to just take it down and run.

A lot of people offered you help. Why not work with them and see the best way this can be handled. There has to be a work around, if your really interested in it.

The thing I don't get is this. Do the loaders download every cover regardless of the fact that you have the game on your drive or not? That seems like a waste in my book.

In forums like these your only going to hear (for the most part) are people who don´t mind sharing their lovely thoughts. You gotta learn to take the good with the bad and forums usually give it you straight an uncensored. Realize that they are the minority

ok you guys really dont understand how intricate the site was.

the files are hosted in different formats and sizes to what is returned to the user , so the site has to resize and convert the images from JPG to PNG and from the size they are at to the posted user size requested.

If i moved the images to another site , the server resizing them would then have to download them (adding to bandwidth issues server to server) or it would have to resize them (adding to resource usage) , either way , it would either max out the bandwidth or the resources very fast on one or both servers.

This is why i decided to limit the amount of people with access to the files at one time which was working until the app to rip the site came out and i had to make a serious change to things.

That I don't get. Have the loaders be programmed to use 1 pre determined size.

So lemmie get this right, lots of people started producing packs of covers on gbatemp. djtaz offers to host them instead of them using freehosts. yet more people put in their time to collect and upload covers. djtaz then starts charging for the work everyone else has put in. Then goes in a huff when people complain about that.

I don't even see the need for all the resizing malarky - choose a size, stick to it, every launcher in future uses it. Don't start resizing for the idiots who got the source code to the launcher and edited it to use their own stupid size. Just stick to a standard size.

The reason that it's "better" is due to the fact that USB loaders now can auto download missing files without storing specific user account info, nor do they have to worry about troubleshooting IP resitrictions. What exactly is the problem with that? I thought the issue was that the USB loaders were hammering the site, driving up bandwidth and CPU? That problem is no longer an issue thanks to the "mirror" sites.

Also, sites like mine don't offer the images in different resolutions. Just whatever the loaders need. Two different needs. If people want to donate to have the ability to download artwork with the flexibility to resize on the fly, they'll still go to your site.

In fact, all you really need to do to stop people from trying to devise ways of circumventing your system (or fuck, even paying members who simply want to download the whole kitenkaboodle of covers) would be to periodically zip up the covers and put them on a site like Rapidshare. Put the link on your website. Bamn! No more bandwidth or CPU from people trying to download every cover. Let Rapidshare worry about them. and best of all, it's free.

closing the site was the best thing to do. it was a really good website.

anyways, here's an idea.
how about you host the latest 20 covers or something instead of having a full library of wii covers.
like how gbatemp used to host the latest 10 gba roms only.

ITS NOT THE BANDWIDTH THATS THE ISSUE- THAT WAS SORTED OUT
Its the system resources when people open a boxart and the system has to resize it - one a one by one basis its not too bad , but when multiple autodownloaders do it, it pushes up the system resource usage and can crash or freeze the server.

The site is capable of taking quite a lot , but the usage on there was massive which is why i restircted normal users to be able to do the same as any of the other sites and download covers one by one though they could still pick any size.

my god you dont need the site to resize it, do a batch resize and store them on the site then people can just go to the section for the size they need. simples!!

do you understand? when people choose PAL or NTSC and then Front cover, then they can click to goto the 160 x 224 section or click to goto the 160 x 225 section, no resizing needed
