Hello everyone,

First time poster here. I decided to make this post since I am having issues with my Wii U. Currently, my Wii U will not boot up to the main menu. It stays stuck on the Wii U logo indefinitely.

There are a few things to note about my console. The console is the black 32 gb model. I believe it was bought during the 2012 holiday season (release) as we were expecting to play Pikmin 3 before it got delayed. The system has never been modded in any fashion. It was not the most heavily played console, and I can't even give a good estimate of when it was last used (at least more than 3 years).

I have already tried doing the UDPIH, however it does not seem to be working. When using the second recovery menu, I get a white screen with some blue lines (see attached image). I believe this is similar to what @fadafwet described in his post. I was able to get the logs from the system, which I have attached to this post. Any idea what the issue may be and how to fix it? Any help would be much appreciated.

Remade the update folder and then tried updating the system, and it seemed to work fine. It didn't actually update the system because I'm on the latest version, but it did tell me I was on the latest version without any error. I did get a warning that updates weren't being blocked when I went home, but I guess that's to be expected. I still got the error when trying to update Pikmin 3, but I guess this test shows us it can connect to the servers just fine.

If recreating those folders did solve the issue for you, I think I'll revisit that because I'm betting you used something on Linux rather than WinSCP. Maybe WinSCP wasn't working properly?

WinSCP would send the same FTP commands as Filezilla would. What FTPiiU supports is pretty limited. You could use the wupclient to change the permissions on these folders to 777 or something like that using the w.chmod command

I don't know how to write python scripts, let alone how to write a script to do something like that. I'll try WinSCP first and if that doesn't work, we can try wupclient. Do you happen to have a script on hand?

I think I got it to work for the nim folder (ignore the first attempt as I realized that probably wasn't right). I guess I should also do that to the packages folder since that was your first suggestion. What do I do after that? Is there a way to recreate them through wupserver?

Ok so that definitely did something. I changed the permissions for nim and packages (packages was the very first one you suggested doing). Just tried updating Pikmin 3, and it froze completely. No error or anything, just froze.

Last time the disc drive wasn’t working properly when I used de_Fuse, or at the very least it didn’t allow me to start up the game. Is there something I need to do to get discs to show?

So it failed twice in a row (first time was the one I posted about), but it's updating now. It's not finished, but so far it hasn't froze.

Installation was a success. Wish I could know why the first two attempts froze, but since it seems to be working at the moment, I’m going to try the rest of the plan (bringing over users and save data). We’ll see how that goes

Nice, that that finally works. Wonder why this was only on your Wii U such a problem. Maybe I should add the chmod to the setup.
Did you do all folders at once or do you know which one it was?

I was pretty busy this week so I'm only getting around to trying FTP today, but I have a problem. It doesn’t look like the mlc is being detected for some reason. Also, when I saw the Wii U earlier, it had a blinking blue light and was a tad warm. The fan was also not on. Normally I unplug the Wii U when I’m not going to use it for an extended period of time, but I didn’t this time. I don’t think anything broke though.

I’ve attached a log as well as a picture of my current setup. I’m wondering if the metal shield could be touching the NAND-AID and causing a short. If that’s the case, I can try insulating it and see if that helps.
