I know the latest update now supports Wii games on the Wii U gamepad, how does that work exactly? Can I control the game from the gamepad, or do I still need to use a Wiimote? Also if control from gamepad is possible, what about games where you need to aim at screen somewhat (Ex: Metroid Prime 3)?

I don't know if I'm confusing something, but if you're talking about this change

  • Added the ability to output to the Wii U GamePad a picture of Wii-only software

then you're probably not gonna be able to actually use the GamePad to play, but only to display what is showing on the TV screen.

Yes, you do need to use a Wiimote. The GamePad actually has a sensor bar built in to the top of the screen, you can simply point the wiimote at the gamepad from a few feet away and it will work just fine. The big advantage is being able to play Wii games, homebrew, VC games, and GameCube games (Devolution or Nintendont) without the use of a television.
