Theres a simple solution for all of this, nobody update beyond 5.3.2, whenever a new update is deployed, wait for confirmation that the update is safe before proceeding.
Once CFW is a reality official updates will only matter for when you want to initially exploit the console to install said cfw. After that, just keep up to date with patches for your fw and you're golden.
I know the scene is quite a ways off from CFW, but imo its the direction we need to head in, if we dont want to constantly play cat and mouse with nintendo.
Of course having a custom OS/fw generally means forfeiting (official) online play (ie ps3 and 360) so the user has to decide whats more inportant to him/her.
Having pretty much free reign over the console for homebrew, hacking etc, or being able to play games online on Big N's servers...
