Every time I see the word "app" I cringe.
It's a fucking apple term...stop applying it to everything.

They don't currently sell apps. They sell games.
I can somewhat agree on where he is coming from; most people associate the word app with either Apple or Android but more so Apple then they do with Android and yes I'm one of them; but you have to remember if common sense were common wouldn't everyone have it?. I just see a lot of senseless apps being made. If it's like the Android market then yeah you got 10k apps but if 1k of these apps are flashlight apps what do you really have here? Then there is Apples app store hm... you pay them $ for short simple games? No wonder people jailbreak honestly LoL.

Nintendo what are your plans? As I thought... No I read where you invested in holographic dvd.... Where has all this info gone?

not much but something to read from a quick google search :)

app store?

is nintendo confusing the controller for a tablet/smartphone?
lol, ignoring facts much? the controller by itself has some muscle in it already, and that's not including the console. and you totally ignored the rest of the article, saying that some apps will be on the controller and some will be on the console.

and "app" means application, not Apple. that's the dumbest thing i ever heard all day. it just so happens that "Apple" and "application" share the first four letters, and they dropped the fourth to make it even more broad. who cares if Apple thought of it first? it's a term now synonymous to games and applications on any device.

that tech is way off from being used in the consumer market. for instance the drives right now are fucking huge and very VERY expensive!

This is one part I hate about Nintendo: can't they just use the Nintendo eShop and expand from there? They can just separate Wii U content from the 3DS.
You mean a universal account/shop? Yeah, that would be nice.
I would be funny if they put the android store as a app with a filter on there.

:P

I wouldn't be surprised one bit if the Wii U is using android 2.3.X with custom code thrown on top. When it comes to OSs Nintendo is a Noob. They took the easy way out with the Wii and it's Mini OSs. So a somewhat act of laziness with the Wii U's OS wouldn't shock me.

Not sure what OS got to do with the store. What I meant is to have their own store and android market in one console. Which would be filter so non-trustful apps wouldn't be on the
console. Like idk, keep apps for asking for any info, no ads, unauthorized code, copyright infringement, etc

Really don't understand you hating on the wii OS.

I love it when a company gives features you don't have to use and people complain about them. If you don't want to use it also as a tablet (besides a controller) then don't. The question is why wouldn't anyone want to if you have the tablet controller anyway.

Don't write it off or praise this too early, let's just see how it will shape up.

Nintendo isn't developer friendly at all. Without making the dev environment friendly and accessible to small devs any kind of app store will fail horribly. If they want to capture the success of the other big names they will have to play by the rules - make it so people can actually create and publish software on your platform.

If they think it will be successful by nature of being a tablet and having portable software then they will be very sad in the long run.

im excited for this cant wait for nintendo to come out with something to compete with apple, nintendo should really consider making a smartphone to compete otherwise the handheld market could be swallowed up by apple

That's a pretty smart move, they are drawing in some of the tablet crowd and getting them interested in their app store games, half of them being virtual console of course and getting them more interested in games, eventually buying disc games.
But if it doesn't do that, It will always have the tablet crowd coming into Nintendo and just using it for the apps and Virtual Console/Wii U-Ware games.
The Wii U looks as if it will be the lead of the next-gen once again.
But we haven't seen Microsoft's or Sony's plans yet, so things could get a lot more interesting.
If Microsoft decides to go with a full Kinect system they could lose a lot of praise.
If Sony goes with a massive launch price, it could be the PS3 all over again.

The tablet crowd would probably, you know, buy stuff for their tablet. If they really get sexually excited over tablets, why would buying a tablet that's basically tethered to a console be exciting? Tablets are cool because they're portable and have all these "smart device" features. A Wii U controller lacks both of those. It's basically not a tablet, it's just a controller with a big touch screen in the middle of it.

I always though of app as just shorthand for "application". I've heard people apply it to everything from iDevices to Android devices to PCs. I guess it's easier to say than "application" or "program" or "client".

I assume it'll be just like their other "App Stores" where it'll contain a bunch of virtual console games, random apps (Mario Calculator anyone?) and email and web browsing apps along with Wii-U Ware games. Nothing special. If you don't like it, DON'T USE IT. They aren't forcing you to use the store or anything so quit all the bitching.

This is correct. I work as software developer we were always talking about apps meaning application before the App Store even existed. App is a common abbreviation for application. Apple didn't invent this term, but they made it popular.

App = Application

"Application" isn't an Apple-only word.

We don't know exactly how much range the Wii and Tablet can have, but with the WiiMote you can use it at the other side of the house (tested with wii bowling by me and my friend ofcourse :P ) and some people's definition of "portable" is simply able to easily take in anywhere in the house. (some people don't like bringing portables to places, I mean who brings their laptops everywhere with them except for work?)
But you can always put the Wii U in your bag and hook it up to a big battery xD

Was just thinking of an idea with the tablet, though probably silly.

I was imagining Virtual Console games on it, separate from requiring the base unit if the tablet had enough processing power to handle them, and that you could temporarily upload a selection of games you purchased to it, and take the tablet with you and play them on the go. Maybe even WiFi on the tablet so that when you need to access the internet away from home, you could pull that out to use it as such.

It's just an idea, but I doubt it'll be that sort of "portable" if at all, since the base unit is literally attached to the tablet like the Wii is attached to Wiimotes. It won't operate without them.
