I would love to see this become a Wii menu that the Wii should have had to start with. For example, loading wiiware and virtual console games from the SD card, but instead of a whole separate menu, directly on the bright front menu. A professional look... Maybe even folders and protection from bricking and what not...

Maybe it already has all of this, maybe not. I admit I haven't played with it yet.

Look to the future...giantpune just released this as a toy, but isn't expected to add many more features. In fact, when you press the start button on a channel, it doesn't launch it. It just goes back to the grid.

Ok, I have an idea, take it or leave it but wouldn't it be wise (maybe useful) to remove the 48 channel limit to have an unlimited array of games installed? Even this idea does not go with the idea of USB loading but rather take away a limitation that was originally placed on us.

I think this will be useful once people start modding it or all the features are fixed but initially what bugs are being fixed? Are these bugs present in the official SM?

Thanks in advance.

There is not only the 48 channel limit. There is also the 512MB nand flash size limit.
Besides that, i have the impression that the system menu loads all channel banner annimations at startup.
That's likely why it's startup becomes slower in neek when a lot of channels are installed.
I prefer an option to hide channels that are not frequently used.

True the ability to hide channels would be superb and probably the better option especially since Snort48+ is already available; I'm no programer but I think it would be pretty easy to implement but like I said I'm not programmer.

I look forward to this and thank you for everyone still working on the Wii :)

EDIT: I do not believe there is a way around the 512 mb flash w/o implementing some form of usb loading correct? or rather some way to use the external hdd or sd like sneek does..... Maybe some insight :)

loading homebrew/disc games/channels is already something that many programs can do, and there are plenty of places you could copy/paste the code into mitschwanzenegger from. im not planning on doing it at all for the fact that once you open that door and make it load a game, there will be a flood of stupid requests about "why dont you make it load games in XXX format?" and "why dont you add special code to handle cios, sneek, uneek, dml, diosmios, 17 different emunands in 17 different subdirectories, and wbfs games all from my 3TiB firewire HDD which has a guid table which points to a mbr listing 4 logical partitions all containing 8 smaller partitions."

if you want to make it load games, you can toss in the code that works with however it is that you have your games stored.

I think game etc. loading from USB would be stupid. It would make the startup time unbearable. But homebrew loading from SD and other functions the original system menu fullfills would be a nice addition.

What would be really great would be enhanced gamecube save managing. Copying those saves from and to SD card with something that looks and handles like the Wiis save manager would be awesome.

i started looking at the gc save portions of the data management. but as i noted in the todo.txt, theres like 70 different layouts and animations and stuff. if you want to figure them all out and submit a patch, then we might add it.

I was about to like this post until I saw the bolded part.

i want brick protection
I want world peace. What exactly is your point?
i want brick protection from banner bricks with this
Not gonna help. This SM replacement is hardly functional yet.
or would like
that's better.

wow the stupid semantics arguments in this forum is getting ridiculous.

on topic:

will this system menu have ALL the features of the original system menu?
ie. message board/friend codes/gameplay tracking, etc

or will these "server accessing" features not be authentic for use with ninty servers?

People need to know that this is a SM player, not an SM replacement. Theres a rather big difference there.

This app only uses the SM html files and the other resources that the SM uses to display what you see. If someone wants to go further and make a SM replacement from this then they have a great starting point, but this project is not about replacing the SM.
