Hacking wii problem

Just took it over to the person who done it and he opened it while i was there. He said "the solder points oar all fine, no bridging or nothing". I brought it home it started working got further than it usually does then came up read disc error again. I dont think it can be the media as i have tried three different types at various speeds and have used imgburn and nero. What i am thinking now is it right that you have to put a piece of installation tape over the chip (Wiikey) before you boot it. As i remenber when i went to pick it up he was opening it again, i said why are you opening it again". And he said "yes we just looked on internet and you have to put installation tape over it the chip before you turn it on or you can blow the chip". Is this true ? As i am thinking he might of booted it without putting the installation tape over the chip. That is the only solution as i have tried everything.

Sorry for being a pain but really doing my head in.
Any help much appreciated.

Still having this problem i have had my wiikey checked and the soldering job is good. I have 2 burners and they only copy at 4x.

Could this be the problem?
What i mean is i need to burn faster.

You need to say which actual type of media you're using.

What burner(s) do you have?

If you can't burn past 4x then you either have

1. Crappy DVD media
2. Crappy DVD burner(s)
3. Crappy burning software
4. Crappy firmware for your burner(s)

Also, what are the specs on your computer? If you have

1. A crappy computer
2. A small or slow hard drive
3. A fragmented hard drive
4. Multiple processes running while burning

your burns can turn out bad.

Man, you're having fat more problems than are nessecary.

My PAL UK wii is (was) modded with a wiikey, by myself.
I put electrical tape over the job after but this was NOT to prevent the chip blowing, this was so you didnt create a short on the metal part of the wii casing or anywhere else once the Wii was reassembled.

If the guy who fitted it know what he's doing and he saysthere are no shorts, then there are none.

First off, I dont mean to be patronising but you are extracting the .iso properly right? With latest version of winrar?

I still am a firm beliver that media dosn't matter (unless you are using £0.01p per disc no-name crap) I've got a collection of about 35 wii games, burned to various media, none of which is Verbatim or other quality. I've used Memorex, TDK, sony and some called "tuff-disc" every single one burned at 8x in IMGburn, under windows Vista. I've used DVD-r and +r, both work exactly the same in my wii. Perfectly.

I've never changed the disc read speed of the wiikey. Kept it at the defuault. The only thing I've done is turned region free on.

I've just finished off a 25 pack of plain white "trax-data" DVD-r which cost me £4.50 (i know, crappy discs!) I used them for Wii games & GC games. All 25 had different game .iso's burned to em, didnt have a single bad burn.

All burned at 8x using IMGburn.

With all that said, you say you have 2 burners but both are only capable of 4x??

What make/model are they? Check if they do 8x.
Let us know the answer.

I might be wrong, buit I dont think your problem is your media or your wiikey, or your console, or your burner. I think you are ether not extracting properly or burning too slow.

I made a mistake before my laptop burner can burn at 16x it was my media that was not capable.

I have just burnt Mortal Kombat at 8x speed in nero with a a disc with a big purple R on it. It worked fine.

Then i burnt Tony Hawk at 8x speed in Nero on a Verbatim but it would not get passed the channel select screen.

Cant try it on them discs with the purple r on as i have ran out.

My burner is a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR K17RS ATA Device

I got told the slower you burn the better is this not the case?

I think "the slower you burn the better the burn" is a misconception.

I have always burned at 8x and never had a bad disc.

Verbatim are widely considered to be the best discs money can buy so if the ones with "the big purple R" on them work, you'll have no trouble with Verbatim.

Have you more verbatim discs? I know you said the Purple ones have run out.

Are they verbatim DVD-R? or +R?

and burn tony hawk again, at 8x with IMG burn to verbatim.

I burnt Tony Hawks at 8x in Imgburn with a Verbatim DVD R- media and it failed.

cardyology told me to do it and let him know the outcome.

What are the specs of your computer, and are you running programs while burning?

No i stop all programs.
I have

1GB Ram
1.60 GHZ P4 processor
120GB hard drive (But also sometime copy off a 500 GB external hard drive)

I have not had 1 successful burn with verbatim.

I have got about 8 games now but had trouble getting those to work fine. Its like some games like certain disks and like being burnt at certain speeds.

It would be wise to first defragment your internal hard drive, and check to make sure you don't have any viruses or spyware that are taking up system resoruces. Also, try not to burn games off of your external hard drive, although, I burn games from hard drives located elsewhere on my network and have no problems.

I keep all my game .iso's on my 1TiB server and always burn them from there on my vista PC. Like I said, never had a bad burn, no matter what disc I use.

As long as I burn in IMGburn at 8x then there are no problems.

Im afraid im stumped.

Where are you getting the games from?

Dont actually say the name but is it a private tracker? like BC games (might be naughty of me saying that

) Just so you know they're good rips.

And like I said, are you extracting them properly?

Yes extracting them properly with winrar so i have 1 4.37gb Iso.

Just burnt 2 isos in Imgburn at 8x on white tops and they worked. Going to try a few more, i let you know the results.

I'm pretty sure if you have test mode ticked that imgburn won't actually write anything to the disk?
