Hacking Wii Menu 4.2 Released

HEy guys i don't think there will be a way to update you sd's os or what ever. when going to update system memory it says "update vesion 4.2 ,or whatever, and you may never need to update again.
it sounds like nintendo thinks its finally stopped us

How long has anyone had to sit at teh preloader menu to get prompted for the update? I want .30 for a backup before adding the 4.2sysmenu with the hexedit. Thanks

EDIT: Can anyone point to a mym for darkwii, I'd like to get the black sysmenu back while I'm at it
when i was on 4.1 the update show asap but on 4.2 i got nothing.

QUOTE(zektor @ Sep 29 2009, 05:08 PM) Good to hear you got it going xzxero. I'm not even worried about preloader. The only reason I ever used it initially was to block updates....but that block only goes for disc backups. If you are a disc backup person, you can use the latest NeoGamma v8 beta which has its own disc update blocking option

Also, if you are using USB loaders, you don't ever have to worry about updates. When you move an iso to the WBFS drive, it conveniently scrubs out the update partition anyway...but you probably already know that

yea i know im a USB loader guy but preloader offers brick protection and a little bit of extra features.

If this is true, then ninty made a BIG mistake by leaving smashstack and indy out... There'll be a workaround soon enough

smashstack and indiana pwns are still working.

At least It'll clean out all of my useless wads, BootMii, my broken DVDx, and my IOSs I don't use anymore. But I don't want the Homebrew Channel gone!

Here's a few notes about system menu 4.2:
  • For pre-LU64 Wiis, updating the new system menu will get from boot2 to boot2v4 (like the LU64+ Wiis have). You can't install BootMii for now.
  • You CANNOT downgrade your system menu from 4.2 to 4.1 and below. Also, you CANNOT downgrade your IOS. Don't ask the question about downgrading IOS and system menu if you have 4.2 installed.
  • You CANNOT run backup games (not retail) anymore on 4.2, via the Disc Channel and other backup lauchers (includes USB, SD and CD backup games).
I believe that in the future, 200 U.S. dollars-based Wiis will come with system menu 4.2.

And so it is NOT RECOMMEND YOU TO UPDATE SYSTEM MENU 4.2.

i love this site's moderators... they pwned this thread right up (notice how NONE of icefireicefire's comments got through?). well im pretty sure that as long as you arent stupid, and you just wait, there will be a way around it... for example if the update DOES add any new functionality, then a way to install JUST the useful part of the update. as far as fixing an updated wii... it MIGHT happen (but we might need the god-like powers of waninkoko for that)

When Waninkoko releases (if he does) a firmware updater for this he'll most likely simply incorporate the hex modification on the fly with the download of the system menu. It really is the easiest method of keeping everything as is and getting to 4.2U.

@xzxero: You have bootmii in boot2? If so you do *not* need preloader

Preloader + BootMii as boot2 = FULL BRICK PROTECTION

Have you been reading anything in the past few pages? We have found a fix for installing SM4.2, and it indeed DOES work with everything (Homebrew, backups) that worked in 4.1...except bannerbomb.

yea but what we really need is a solid method to enable a wii with full homebrew capabilities for virgin 4.2 wii's, or ones updated via nintendo using bannerbomb and not some commercial game.
which means we would still need new cIOS slots and trucha restoring methods, correct?
thats our main goal isnt it?

i mean we already can "successfully" upgrade an already softmodded wii with previous cIOS and bootmii installed and whatnot, but what about the others?

and yes i got boot2 but i use preloader to autoboot dol files really.
im sure preloader will be capable with 4.2 sometime soon.
