Hacking Wii Menu 4.2 Released

ohhh, just got the update

"wii menu verison 4.2 is now available for your wii console. to update your wii menu to the latest version, please select the update button at the bottom of the screen or select the system update option in the wii system settings.

this update provides behind-the-scene fixes that will not affect features but will improve the overall system performance.

because unauthorized modifications to save data or program files may impair game play or the wii console, updating to wii menu version 4.2 will also check for and automatically remove such save data or program files.

**please note: if youve updated your wii menu after 9/29/09, you may not need to update again.

thank you for updating your wii console!"

are there any cios installers that let you choose any open ios slot?

No, but if you are on v4.2, try my mod of Hermes cios installer, which will install to 224 and 225.

what this basically means,

this update provides behind-the-scene fixes that will not affect features but will improve the overall system performance.
changes system menu to use IOS70 which possibly will improve performance.

because unauthorized modifications to save data or program files may impair game play or the wii console, updating to wii menu version 4.2 will also check for and automatically remove such save data or program files.
this update will delete the homebrew channel, modified saves like indiana pwns, many cIOS such as 249

thank you for updating your wii console!
hahah your screwed for a week or so

Nintendo doesn't want you pirating their upcoming Christmas titles.

You can bet all their first party games coming out in the next 2 months will require 4.2

again i doubt this, but by then all of this will be figured out.

Besides, no Wii game has required a system menu (only specific IOS). I have no reason to think it's going to start doing this now. Don't games not have access to the entire NAND anyway? Do they even have permissions to check something like the System Menu version currently installed?

Up until 3.4, games used to do this. Since 4.0 came out, they only update IOSes. They could go back to the original policy at any time they liked.

i swear I have the worst luck EVER. Ever since I got the homebrew channel like a year ago I've ALWAYS checked this site for news before updating my Wii. EXCEPT TODAY! I went with my gut (which is usually wrong) and just updated cuz I figured it would be OK. And of course, this is like the worst update ever for homebrew users. COME BACK WANINKOKO!! Save my Wii!

I am certain it would not at all be very difficult to add code for system menu version checking to a game. They have not done it thus far, but you just never know.

The games required a specific system menu? I was on 3.2 for a long time and not once did I have any problems loading a game. O-o

But yeah, they could start doing something like that I suppose. I was just wondering since I thought I read something about games being disallowed access to most of the NAND. I'm probably wrong though.

Jesus Christ. Have you read anything in the past few pages of this thread? Try an exploit (SSBB or Indy), try to get trucha in with TBR, and try my compile of Hermes cIOS modified. It's all you have now anyway...

The Great Waninkoko will return! He has not forgotten about his loyal subjects!!

i honestly think he will return within the next 24 hours.

i mean he can't not write a much needed 4.2 firmware updater app.

thats just insane.

Haha, and I just hacked my Wii last night. If I waited a day longer and the HBC never crossed my mind, my Wii would be 4.2 now.
