Hello, i have a modded wii, all gone well with the Wii itself, as i can rip my games to the SD card using a CD/DVD and rip it to the Wii, and play the games from there.
I have also tried using wii backup manager, transferring from ISO to the SD or USB memory. While selecting a 4.5GB iso, the filesize is being reported as much less, usually 1GB or even less. Transferring this to the SDHC card using wii backup manager, the game shows up on the Wii (configurable usb loader), starting the game, it goes to a black screen. I assume it is because something went wrong using Wii backup manager?

Thanks in advance!

Hello.:)

The Game Size on the HDD differs depending how big the "real" Game is.A regular Wii Game has 4.5 GB (except a few Dual Layer Games).
It contains sometimes an Update"Partitions" too.
The WiiBackupManager installs ONLY the real Game (if selected in the SETTINGS).That is why the Size is different.:)

If you use CLEANRIP,the WiiBackupManager should install your Games from that ripped ISO´s without any Troubles.

An Alternative is to use the Install Option from the USBLoader GX (if you use it too).
If you have Issues on this Procedure, please change the Loaders IOS from IOS58 to IOS249 for the Game Installation.
After you have finished please change it back.:)

Black Screen could be also an cIOS Issue. Please be sure your Softmod is up to Date and your needed cIOS are correct installed and has the correct Slot/Base/Revision.

If you want to insist on Game Loading from SD Card then you can also try WiiFlow Lite v5.4.0.
It also supports SD Card loading.:)

Thank you.:)

It's quite common for games to be much smaller when converted from iso to wbfs. New super Mario bros wii for example is only like 400MB I think.

The issue with loading your game could be due to your wii mods. Can you post a Syscheck? Or just use ModMii to analyze your syscheck to tell u if there are any improvements that can/should be made

Edit: it could also be usb compatibility, is it a flash drive / USB key?

I'm using a SDHC card, it seems the wii/mods on it are fine, as i can convert wii sports to the SD card from the disc drive to the SD itself, loading/playing the game fine from the card. Problems occur when transferring via wii backupmanager.

Atleast i know the file size isn't the problem then :) I will look next time how cleanrip will do. Thanks for the answers so far!

Edit: oh yes i tried loading from a SDHC card, like i said it works fine when ripping using my wii to the SD card and play from there. I assume i'm doing something wrong with wii backup manager. I should place it in a seperate folder on the memory card right?

Yes,it belongs into the Folder "wbfs" in the Root of your SD Card.:)

How are you ripping to SD? What app you using? Most apps will rip to wbfs format by default, and if it's already in that format you can just copy directly without any special software.

It may be your CIOS, backup loading from SD has worked for awhile even on older CIOSs. Loading backups from FAT32 or ntfs hard drives requires an up to date cios. I suggest you follow my previous advice and post a Syscheck, also share with us more information what device you're using, how it's formatted, and what apps you're running, etc.

Yes your are absolut right,CLEANRIP allows only FAT and NTFS....

The inbuild cd ripper in configurable usb tool, on the wii itself. The game was wii sports, the file was a wbfs file, created in a wbfs folder on the sdhc card. SD card was formatted as FAT32. I was thinking, if that works, there can't be anything wrong with the wii mod itself?

I will try to look for the syscheck if i have enough time now :)

If you're mods are out of date, it could work on sd cards but not necessarily a FAT32 or ntfs hard drive. Support for these were not present in many older CIOSs (I. E. The wii mod itself)

... Rereading your post, are you having issues with games transferred to your sd card via some other source? And your saying the same sd card is working with games you ripped manually using the wii itself? If so, then what you're saying makes a lot more sense, it SHOULD be working. You may have to enable region free system menu hacks or adjust the video mode settings in the loader if the game you're having issues with is not the same region as the consoles firmware. But again if your mods are out of date that too could explain things, some games require specific CIOSs to work, but at present the latest recommended cios will (in most cases) be able to handle any game at least as well as any previous combination of CIOSs so now ppl don't need to really install so many or worry about switching between different cios slots depending on the game being played

I think i modded the wii with all the latest mods, carefully read and followed instructions. I tried transferring from wii backupmanager, then game didn't load. When i transfer from original disk to sd card it works, if done from the wii itself. Thats why i thought the mod on the wii is all good.
Aha where do i do that, enable region free? Anyway im trying to do a syscheck, downloaded syscheck162, i should put that in the apps folder, but i see no apps folder, just boot.elf etc, guess il create my own folder then ;)

Please use the sysCheck Link from my Signature please.:)
This is the common Version of the sysCheck Tool.

Thank you.:)

Oh i already had started syscheck on my wii, it seems to take long, on this checking for vulnarableties :P, it is hanging there so il try yours.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Did the syscheck with the one in your link, two files where created, did with winrar as the files could not be uploaded otherwise.

I noticed also, i cant have both the usb and SDHC card at the same time, the apps wont show in the homebrew channel then. I fix this with re-inserting and starting the app. This is unrelated to the game not booting btw, as i tried with just the SD card too, with the game and usb app on it.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I tried via cfg usb loader to do settings enable country fix, video fix etc, same thing, black screen when starting the game. Wii sports works to load from the same sd card. Just before loading it says 'reloading IOS blocked' or something.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Hej just want to say i got it working, had to enable all of those options at once, enable video patch, country fix, and one other related to that, then save and start, it worked :)

Thank you all for helping me out and the fast responses <3

GC and Wii games have padding added to the start of the disc (the inside part), because disc reads are slower in that area, so every game is padded so the data is moved towards the outer edge where reads are quicker. So when you make a raw ISO dump the padding is included as it actually shows up as files on the ISO, and when converting to WBFS in Wii Backup Manager or similar it automatically deletes those files as they serve no purpose when loading from a HDD.
Very few games make use of (almost) all the space on the disc so you'll usually save about half the size on average when you run them through Wii Backup Manager.
