Hey guys, I have a NSTC 3DS, and I live in Australia. Is it safe to assume that the 3DS restricts you to players with the same region console? I'm worried that when I buy a wifi-enabled game, I'm going to be screwed for non-laggy play.

The only wifi enabled game that allows competitive matches as of now, as far as I know, is SSFIV3D, and it allows for both regional and worldwide matches.
I don't see why that would change with other games.

Note:
SF4 also allows you to choose what region you want to look for matches in.

On the Wii and DS the region didn't matter since the way nintendo's service works is by connecting you to the server of whatever the region you're in.
Same can likely be said for 3ds.

streetpass and spotpass are region free by confirmation, so I'm willing to bet it's going to be the same as ds and wii again for games.

Ah, so it detects what region you are in, rather than locking you to the players that share your region code?
Man, this is a relief!

No Nintendo system or game has a Friend Code in its original box.
It's generated when you connect the game or system online.

Of course not.
What I'm talking about is whether the 3DS will take preference in connecting you to other players that share the same region code.

Not taken into account.

I keep getting Japanese named players in streetfighter anyway, and they destroy me.

What about if you selected Regional play?
Does it group you with your actual region, or the consoles region?
