edit:
2D graphics != bad graphics

Maybe the way it's displaying the sprites gives it high requirements

it doesn't have high requirements, you just have a poor PC, RAM is extremely cheap.

Translation: "Why does the game 'Shank' have high requirements? It has bad graphics, so why does it need a graphics card with 256MB of RAM?"
QUOTEo OS: Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7
o Processor: Intel Pentium 4 running at 1.7 GHz or Greater; Athlon 64 running at 1.7GHz or greater with support for SSE2 instructions
o Memory: 1 GB of ram, 1.5 GB (Vista and Windows 7)
o Hard Disk Space: at least 2 GB of free HD space
o Video Card: ATI Radeon X1800 GTO 256MB and the Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra 256MB cards
o DirectX®: DirectX9 Jun 2010
Wow, the system requirements are so astronomically high, you must need a monster PC to run it. Or maybe not.
