Gaming why is my cheat code not working

Hi I have a soft modded wii im using cgf loader and i download the cheat code that i wanted to uesd and then save it it then say to activate it the need to press HOME when i do it takes me back to the window screen and nothing happens so i went and did it again and press B to go back try to play the games and i get loading... and its stays loading for ever
so can some one please help me and let me know what steps to take
