those marvelous groups that release our ds games (and every other piece of software) day of release, or even days before hand. why do they do it? it's obviously not for profit..
out of the goodness of their hearts?
they work in those game companies, and they hate their job?
cuz they're bored?
they wanna test/show off their ability?
fame?

i think it's a little bit of everything, wat do u guys think?

o and long live hackers

They're as far from hackers as can be. They didn't invent anything to play copies, probably not even what they use to dump.
And as far as I can tell the scene is just one big contest, who can do what first etc.

One of the main reasons would probably be, because they can!

I'm guessing they like appreciation, and it's kind of a hobby.....I don't think there is much more to it!

The same reason people pay £30 for spray paint, break into a depot and paint their name in 5ft high letters on a train.

Probably fame, I mean their release group name is forever saved on the internet for the game the put out.

Yeah calling them "hackers" is insulting !

(Mind you, calling them "dumpers" sounds even worse!!!

)

Maybe call them "releasers" or "awesome ones" ?

Anyway whatever the reason, they bring joy to lots of people!

I like to think they do it for the karma !!!

insulting to hackers more like. (and no, hacking doesn't have to have anything to do with security) although, if they actually "invented" or made any of the tools for dumping, then they may fall under that category.

as for why they do it, dunno, I have always wondered where they get all the games from to dump, if they buy them it seems a little silly, and surely their local game store would catch onto them buying and returning every ds game...

Once a hacker, always a hacker.
They might start for many reasons, but they will never stop.
For example, they might want to help companies fix bugs in their software, or they might just want to mess stuff up.

Those are 2 basic kinds of hackers.
Hackers are basically just expert developers. It's what they use those skills for that give them the title of hacker.

Like a lot of people have said, "because they can" is also a very common reason (aka. "educational purposes")
