This is getting old...

If you can't use Devolution for some reason (piracy/broken disc drive/scratched discs/whatever), you have another option, which is to use DIOS-MIOS, which does not have any anti-piracy protection. It gives you all the same features as running a GameCube disc on a Wii in GameCube mode would, and as of right now, it pretty much has all the same features as Devolution. You are not being "punished" or "held back" in any way. It's just that, perhaps, Devolution is a program that was not designed for you, and since the author has not once come in here to defend his anti-piracy stance, it appears that any "argument" against it is worthless.

It was never interesting. The staff leaves this open so trolls have a place to complain about nothing.

LOL this thread is beyond stupidity. I only read for entertainment. The only posts related to the title are the first 2 pages, the rest is nonsense deriving from nonsense. Topics discussed here were fallacies, Hdd corruption, Verification Failure and now Laws. A normal person would understand that this thread is going nowhere and arguing here is just a way to do something in your spare time. If this thread was to have a real cause the discussion should be between the N- AP and the author (like years ago when TT decided they wouldn't support cios and people begun ranting and Marcan jumped and explained why he did it and defended every point threw at him) If Tueidj doesn't come here defending his POV regarding the topic's title it clearly means he doesn't care what people think about his AP policies.
1 - There has been additional discussion of how the AP works after the first two pages.
2 - Tueidj has come in to discuss a bit more of how the AP works.
3 - This thread's existence is purposeful, to keep the bitching out of the main devolution thread.

Something I apparently failed at was making the assumption that people here could have a rational and civil discussion of anti-piracy measures. Some can... while others seem preoccupied with shutting down discussion and/or making personal attacks.
You're the one who's being irrational. When you started arguing with the creator of the damned program about how the AP he wrote works, it became obvious you fail at rationality.

What, you think tueidj would know his own program better than a newbie like wiismodrome? Now that's just crazy!

Sorry, I know I'm just as guilty of this as anyone else but you just reminded me of something I saw browsing the other day

(Or at least the closest thing to it that came up in Google.)

I already tried to explain that the AP isn't there to prevent piracy.
It's simply an argument for the program to be delivered as closed source.
The HBC uses similar arguments.
That is closed source to prevent Ninty from understanding the exploit that is used, so that they can't fix it..
Like Ninty needs the sources to figure out what exploit is used if they wanted it?
So this basically makes all discussions about AP forces people to pirate pointless.

However, it's fun reading all this... :) Please, don't close it...

And this info comes from where?
Even if it were true, why would anyone need an argument to release their project as closed source? It's their's, they can do what they want with it. If that means closed source, so be it. (unless they happen to use GPL code or something, of course)

The thread's title is "WHY ADD ANTI-PIRACY MEASURES TO DEVOLUTION?"
It was clearly discussed and answered in the first two or three pages, how Devolution AP works ? its another topic non related to the thread's original question/purpose.

Right now the discussion on this thread is beyond the main point in fact is pointless beyond repair.

Not sure what your claim is here, that the programmer is a god or infallible? He never gave a reasonable explanation about how the AP works. He deflected rather than answering several direct questions. He was wrong about a key point regarding the temporal sequence of the loading process. He engaged in sophistry. Take a look at the posts again using logic this time.

You acted like he was lying about how it worked. Besides, why should he tell you (or anyone) exactly how the AP works?

Acted as if? That's subjective.

As I see it, he was telling me I was wrong and that that claim is supposed by accepted on nothing but his authority, without evidential support. Arguments from authority are fallacious. What is required to prove that a claim is wrong is evidence to the contrary. Just saying so without providing evidence disproves nothing.

You and fallacies....

He is the only one who knows for sure how it works. I believe him, and have no reason not to. But he doesn't need to prove anything.

He's not going to show you how it works, as he doesn't have any reason to prove things. You will just continue to make a fool of yourself, screaming "fallacy!" all the way.

Hello. Question:

If Devolution was made with Family Edition Wii's in mind[1]
and Family Edition Wii's cannot read Gamecube disks
then doesn't this inference result in a false conclusion
where the conclusion is disk-based AP?

Thanks for your time.

References:
  1. WHY: To do what the "official" method doesn't. I hate GC controllers and the crappy little discs. And if you bought a new model wii you can't play NGC games at all.

If all you bought was GC games and a new model Wii, then I cannot post enough facepalms.

However people who are into the softmodding scene would know better than that.

The author has said that maybe he implement the verification through a PC DVD drive, so the games will be able to verify for people who have damaged his wii dvd drives or have the new model wii.
