Insane random battle rate for sure. The game should be played like an old Dragon Quest only tougher. Not a bad game but if I am going to invest lots of time I rather invest time on Knights in the nightmare right now.

what do u mean insane battle rate? its only slightly higher

Hm, I've played up to the western forest part, the game has been good for me all the way. I wonder if they set the AP wrong? Then only retail carts get freezes

got a mail that my play-asia order was shipped just recently. so I should have the game in a week or so. really looking forward to it.

I hope I don't experience any freezing, not that I expect any since I'm buying the legit game. The massive amount of random battles does turn me off slighty now in beforehand. The ones in the GBA Semi-rpg: Sigma Star Saga were rediculus.

Crashes and freezes have been reported in the retail game, aswell. :/
And people are drama queens when describing the encounter rate. They like blowing things out of proportion. I've only had several instances of ridiculous rates, one was like 2 steps after a battle, but it was fine after that one.

Likewise, I was thrilled when I saw the email turn up in my inbox a few hours ago (since I'm getting it through Play-Asia as well). It's been tempting to start playing it on my flashcart, but I'm gonna' be good and wait for the physical copy to arrive, just for the principal of the thing. I really hope I don't experience any freezing at inopportune moments, such as not having saved in a long time due to all the random battles...

But, yay for supporting small developers!

Dragon Quest VIII is very unforgiving with new characters and this game has even more random encounters with tougher enemies. Im not saying is necessarily a bad thing, however we can agree that grindtastic games are not for everybody.

true, i am one of those guys who just like to grind away my troubles. But ya, DQ 8 isn't fun at all, at least in this game, our characters are pretty much at the same levels, its not like hey, new dude, come join my party

This game is terribly bland and disappointing thus far. Granted, I am only an hour in but I am let down. I have never tried a code before, but I may just to stomach through more of the game to see if it improves.

I totally dislike this game. Its got oldschool sprites, and its like a mixture of SOM and Chrono Trigger. Dont get me wrong these games are the bomb, but Dark Sigil is worthless... Thats just my opinion.

When the hell did that happen in Dragon Quest 8? There were four characters, Hero, Yangus, Jessica and Angelo, when I recieved Jessica and Angelo in my party, they were both only a single level below Hero and Yangus, and at the end of the game were still only a level behind. "At least in this game"? Are you trying to say that when you received Angelo in DQ8 he started out at level 1? Because I highly doubt that.

Haven't played this game yet, just downloaded it. Not expecting too much from it.

@law: my bad, i didn't gotten too far into the game(DQ 8, is this the one for ps2 or for the DS?? ) yet, i assume that the allies will be joining u at a fix level like in some of those rpg titles and if u had overtrain yourself, their level would be very low to u..)

DQ8 = PS2 only
smile.gif

there wasn't any DS version

actually they might join you in a slightly low level
but if you have them in the party a little longer
it will eventually catch up
at least this is what i experienced

i see, i was thinking of those old rpgs where they joined u at a fixed level(i think... should be most likely, since they can't be 10~15 levels lower than my current party is, can they? )

back to topic: its kinda sad that isa after she was seperated from u, she doesn't join back at a more up to date level

instead it was where she was last left off, it would be fine, thankfully though, she's just a backup, so its okay ;D
