Despite the (depressing) delays, I'm still hyped for Black Sigil. I'm looking forward to seeing that email from Play-Asia in my inbox saying that it's shipped and on its' way to my door. Well, I hope they'll get it in stock on time, anyway...

The classic 16-bit style is a huge draw for me, since that's where my first gaming days were (would've been sooner but family is poor and gaming stuff in Aussieland is overpriced), and SNES/MegaDrive/etc type stuff has a special place in my heart.

I must be forgetting many years of my life, 'cause that looks like a DS standard (that isn't 3D) and not "ancient, classic 16-bit)

But I'll bite. Don't know nothin' about it though.

Why does Wikipedia list the date as June 23, 2009?

I'm definitely looking forward to it. I really can't wait to check out the gameplay, and I love the look of it. Hopefully it will actually get released this time, and the gameplay won't be a disappointment. Can't wait to check it out.

They're not being jerks, someone editing the wiki is. The source they linked from for the date confirmation (official site) still says release day is 6/9/09.

So far, there have been two reviews- Nintendo Power and Play magazine. Neither one of the sources are reputable or unbiased in their views. Nintendo Power gave the game a 5/10 and Play magazine didn't specify a score, but had nothing but praise for the game. Nintendo Power is biased towards first party nintendo games and Play magazine often gets games completely wrong (they gave Sonic 06 a 9/10).

There is a scan of the Play review. It's kind of small, but still legible-

As for the release date, no one knows who to trust. Here's a few release dates though-

Gamespot- June 9
Graffiti Entertainment- June 9
IGN- June 8
Amazon- says it's in stock (doubt it)

So this could be the final release date at last. We don't know until it really is out in stores (and dumped for that matter). This will be a game I will definitely play and more than likely enjoy. But I have a feeling most review sites will snub it and rank it low due to its old look and derivative feel. I'm willing to bet a lot of 6's will be handed out to it. Kind of hypocritical considering Chrono Trigger DS got insanely high reviews and was almost no different from the SNES game. There were a lot of glowing previews though, so maybe the reviewers will surprise us and be open minded about it.

hopefully, well, other than those pointless delays, they could just released it long ago, but they keep pushing it back for one reason or another...

i am interested at how the combat system would be like? tales of? or a basic turn-base combat?

The delays this year were because they could not afford to pay the cart-making factory up front until recently, before it was because they were porting it from the GBA to the DS

As for combat, imagine Chrono Trigger, but you can move too.

Yeah, it just looks kinda old graphic-wise for ds x.x

It's sure better than that piece of shit 3D on FF3/FF4 that everyone seens to love. 3D does not go well with the DS, so they need to stop attempting it.

Now, about the topic on hand. I've anticipated this game for as long as I can remember, going through each delay disappointment, after disappointment. Now that they said officially it's coming out tomorrow, I'm hyped up even more so than before.

Can't wait guys, here's hoping the hype wasn't for nothing!

DS can handle really good 3D when the developers actually try. Kingdom Hearts is a perfect example. What people always seem to forget is that FF 3 and 4 had big headed appearances due to a style choice. If you had played the original, you'd have known that the same character designs were also present there. The DS remakes were fitting in their designs because they pay homage to the original games.

As for this, I love the graphics. The pixel art is just great and reminds me of Chrono Trigger and the Mana series.

Gameplay wise, people should know that battles happen randomly like FF6. The actual battles are like Chrono Trigger except that you need to position you character around the battle screen to get close enough to enemies to strike. Also, I heard you have an item slot limit in battle (according to a preview) where you need to choose the items you'll bring into battle.

I have played every version of FF4, and I would have much preferred prettier sprites (Ex. FF 1/2 on PSP, or even the side story on wii), and I haven't played KH, so I don't know if they finally got it right. Maybe I should, just to rethink my comment? I'unno, even if it is done well, I personally prefer colorful sprites on Nintendo Handhelds. If I want handheld 3D, the PSP does it fine.

To be on topic, I didn't know those gameplay facts you mentioned, sounds interesting. I loved the CT battle system, so lets hope they made this just as fun.
