Which Sonic generation are you?

I love the Genesis Sonic games,(who doesnt?) best in the series so far, and Sonic was generally getting worse and worse after the Dreamcast.
The handhelds are an exception though, Sonic Advance and SOnic Rush series are pretty good too.

You know what Sonic needs? A game which is exactly like the Genesis Sonic games in style of play, without any useless or stupid ideas or gimmicks, which means SPEED, SPEED, SPEED! Sonic Unleashed almost got this right (I say almost because of the annoying Werehog levels). Also, a reboot of the Sonic Universe would be nice too, without all the annoying and useless characters. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles (maybe Shadow) is enough

But of course, Sonic Team's top mission is to make Sonic suck :/

from the 16 bit, best 3D sonics are from the dreamcast, i unfortunately never owned a sega saturn to play the sonic games on there, the recent sonics are a abomination, only recent sonics i enjoyed were secret rings and unleashed and even then the bugs. camera and controls spoiled it for me AND the fact that recent 3D sonics never let you play as super sonic during the levels, that really bugs me a lot.

edit: sonic rush and the advanced games are good too.

early gamecube generation....i remember i always went round my friends house to play sonic adventure 2, that was awesome.

Genesis/Gamegear era though I found the first Sonic on DC to be ok, but stuff since every last one was more and more downhill including portable stuff. The entire focus on how the Sonic games were made have been lost entirely.

Sonic CD and Sonic 2. Suck it.

Sonic CD is a nightmare of a level design that mix the platforming into a complex maze that's only like 5 game minutes to the goal.

Sonic 2 was indeed better than Sonic 1.

Until I picked up Sonic Rush for the DS I hadn't touched a Sonic game since the Sega CD version. I loved the original as well as the sequel with Tails but the Sega CD version really rocked me with the amazing music and animated opening and ending.

As with nearly all gaming, I prefer the classic days of gaming when videogames felt new and exciting and some wonderment still existed within us instead of the expectantly jaded gamers most've us have become.

The first sonic i played was sonic 3 for the megadrive(?),i think it was THE first game i played in my life and i really liked it!!!

after that i played sonic and knuckles and then came the 3D sonic and i liked them alot.

and finally came sonic adventure for the dreamcast,THAT was the best sonic i played, and sonic adventure 2 was even much better

!!!

After that, sega started making crappy sonic games.....heck i played that sonic the Hedgehog for the xbox360 and OMG its one shitty game and its filled with glitchs!!

,but it had great graphics though

somehow i think sega got like this since their dreamcast died.......

Sonic Adventure 2 on the gamecube, I didn't think it was that bad. The last good Sonic game I played was Rush. Rush Adventure took Rush and raped it.

The first Sonic I played was Sonic CD, then Flickies Island...
But what really got me into Sonic was Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, which was bundled w/ my NGC.
I have played Sonics from 16-bit generations and honestly I can't see what's so wrong with past gen and current gen Sonics.
My fav. is Sonic CD mainly because it was the first that I played, but closely to the first place is Sonic Heroes.

Pretty old thread. But I guess I'll join in. I guess I'm from the Game Gear Sonic Generation. My sister had a game gear with the first sonic. Since that I've been lacking the Sonic. I played the DS outings for a couple of hours and Sonic unleashed for a couple hours as well. IMO Sonic sucks compared to Mario. Relive the 16 bit war!

The first sonic I played was on either the NES or the Sega Genesis. I don't remember but my brothers kept everything they bought so thoughts how I played classics. We have a C64 and the old Pong thing. I remember playing the Tick on the SG and jumping off some train on some train fight scene and laughing so hard! hey, I was 4.

Sonic on NES? I think your confused there.

First Sonic game I played was Sonic 1. But back in those days, I had trouble getting past the 3rd stage (the pinball/casino/whatever stuff).

I still have all the Sonic games on the Genesis and a couple for Game Gear. IMO, once Sonic started going 3D, the games just went downhill from there. Granted, in those days, I got most of my games for free (guess I still do to an extent...). I still think the pinnacle of Sonic games rest with Sonic 3 & Knuckles. If only Sega could go back to basics and do like a S3&K remix without ruining it.

I was born '95 yeah I'm fourteen, yet the nineties still managed to hold me I didn't really own a console until 2000 where I inherited a N64, and some guy bought us a PS1. Before that I used to go to my friends place, and we played Sonic 2,3,Knuckles and CD, man it was so awesome for me, cos I was only like 6.

I started playing sonic on the Genesis, stopped when it went 3D. The last good Sonic game I've played is Sonic Adventure 1 on the Dreamcast, although Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure did come real close to being like the first Sonics.

It's sad to see the blue guy doing lame platformers, Olympic tie-ins, and crappy cameos.

And to those that say Sonic wasn't about speed, it was. Sonic was a direct response to Nintendo's Mario. Sega wanted a product that wasn't slow and clunky like Mario and represented the faster processing speeds that the Master System/Genesis could provide over the NES.

I would say I started with Sonic2 on the Genesis and at the same time I played a lot of Sonic2 on the MasterSystem at my friends house. So with those two I started it.

I think till today Sonic2 for Genesis is my favourite. It is just a really great and very beautiful game.

My first Sonic game was on the Genesis. Good times... Good times... I can't really remember which game though. Should be Sonic the Hedgehog 3 or something.
