I'm interested in buying a psp and very keen on putting custom firmware on it. My options are to either get a new psp 3000 and put up with having it in sleep all the time or get a second hand 2000 form ebgames or something. What would be the best option. I will mostly be using it for PSX and emulation and some good PSP games.

Any ideas?

Poster, have you read the other 100 topics relating to this same question?

Anyway with that said

Just get a PSP2000, the PSP3000 isn't worth the trouble and the "new" screen.

Also, PSP2000 you should install 5.50GENB2 (you can decide if you want to go D2 or not)

B2=5.55 FW games you have do decrypt yourself but it's stable
D2=decrypts the games for you, but it doesn't play all games well.

if I'm wrong flame me, but can't you tell by the inside of the UMD drive if it's a 082 model for PSP2000?

The poster can just open it there.

I would look at the RED god of war or the blue/silver (Darth Vader, Ratchet and Clank) PSP2000 packs they arer all hackable

get God of War or any limited editions PSP 2000 since you'll have a high chance it's an older model mobo. That's what I did, I got a God of War PSP 2001.

I dont like the sequels of the PSP. 3000 and the go are paper weights to me

I have both a 1000 and 2000 and honestly can't recommend one over the other. A used 2000 will typically have less wear than a 1000 though, so that's a plus =P When getting a memory stick make sure it's 8GB or more. Transferring content is slooooow.

Prices for memory sticks are really expensive here so i'll probably order a PhotoFast CR-5400 Dual slot MicroSDHC because the adapter's cheap locally and so are MicroSDHC's. Has anyone had any experience with these MicroSD adapters?

i bought a photofast cr-540, but it hasnt shipped yet.
