I'm interested in buying a psp and very keen on putting custom firmware on it. My options are to either get a new psp 3000 and put up with having it in sleep all the time or get a second hand 2000 form ebgames or something. What would be the best option. I will mostly be using it for PSX and emulation and some good PSP games.

    Any ideas?

I suggest PSP 2000. Same thing as 3000 but is hackable, of course only if its an older model 2000.

    I'd get the 2000. It's way more convenient than a 3000.

Poster, have you read the other 100 topics relating to this same question?

    Anyway with that said

Just get a PSP2000, the PSP3000 isn't worth the trouble and the "new" screen.

Also, PSP2000 you should install 5.50GENB2 (you can decide if you want to go D2 or not)

B2=5.55 FW games you have do decrypt yourself but it's stable
D2=decrypts the games for you, but it doesn't play all games well.

Thanks for the info, have read the others just didn't get a definative answer to my specific question. If I get a second hand 2000 from ebgames what are the chances that it will be unhackable?

All depends on if it's a later model or not.

if I'm wrong flame me, but can't you tell by the inside of the UMD drive if it's a 082 model for PSP2000?

The poster can just open it there.

I would look at the RED god of war or the blue/silver (Darth Vader, Ratchet and Clank) PSP2000 packs they arer all hackable

get God of War or any limited editions PSP 2000 since you'll have a high chance it's an older model mobo. That's what I did, I got a God of War PSP 2001.

I dont like the sequels of the PSP. 3000 and the go are paper weights to me

Well if it has 4.01 firmware as its stock firmware it is a ta-088v3 or whatever is unhackable. Then again I don't think you could figure out if it is stock firmware or not. Well just incase.

Just an update, I've gone out and got myself a second hand PSP 2000 with firmware 3.71. Will be getting a memory stick in the next few days.

I have both a 1000 and 2000 and honestly can't recommend one over the other. A used 2000 will typically have less wear than a 1000 though, so that's a plus =P When getting a memory stick make sure it's 8GB or more. Transferring content is slooooow.

Prices for memory sticks are really expensive here so i'll probably order a PhotoFast CR-5400 Dual slot MicroSDHC because the adapter's cheap locally and so are MicroSDHC's. Has anyone had any experience with these MicroSD adapters?
