Which CFW is better for a9lh?

Cakes is more geared towards advanced users (doesn't apply any patch automatically, you have to configure them, and can use only that FIRM you patched yourself at that time).
AuReiNand is (by my own admission) geared towards user-friendliness. It applies the patches the average user surely needs (you can't disable signature patches or reboot patches at all times, or the firm protection when you boot a9lh sysNAND), is configured for the most common usage scenarios (autoboots emuNAND, or sysNAND on updated sysNAND mode, L is for the second thing you might want to use, etc.).
So you can't really say which one is "best". Probably the average user on this site would have an easier time with AuRei.

tbf though why would you disable those things, kinda defeats the purpose of a CFW

I try my best to keep up with stuff but the scene's too sanic. I have some unreleased stuff that is half-finished due to me switching priorities around all the time due to constantly changing demands/interest. That, and lately there's been a bunch of personal business that has kept me from working on it. Also note the wip branch: https://github.com/mid-kid/CakesForeveryWan/commits/wip-new-format

Dont let people discourage you !

There will always be people saying things, sometimes is not even by bad intents, people just naturally want more and more. I'm using cakes by a long time now and couldnt be more happy, thank you! =)

I know, but while I can deal with it, it still sucks to not to be able to keep up to user's expectations.
Thanks anyway.

I feel as though this may be your issue. Even if it's not what is under most demand right now I would seriously recommend sticking to one thing and finishing it rather than leaving it half implemented and moving onto something else. For example say you were working on agb_firm patching but then BOOM WE KNOW HOW TO DO REGION FREE, keep doing what you are doing on agb_firm even if it's not what's being cried for the most. We get it things take time but don't drop things halfway through. Plus there is the issue of not remembering what you were doing when you come back to a project..

Though sometimes it is good to take a break so I dunno...

Personally I would definitely say AuReiNand is my favourite. It boots in 8.35 seconds, has splash screen support, boots cleanly and looks like stock booting, does support multiple emuNANDS, updatedsysnand, though I do feel like it could be getting bloated. I really do not agree with having a boot manager built into my CFW. I want it to be CFW nothing more. (Okay that's a lie, I would actually really like a CFW that does it all... decrypt9... uncart... EVERYTHING so I guess it's all or nothing). AuReiNand doesn't have a menu you can go into and turn on flags yourself which is a bit annoying having to create the flag file yourself...

Cakes on the other hand I used but never really enjoyed. It had the text appear on the bottom screen even when auto booting, it always seemed to take longer to boot, I don't think it has splash screen support... The fact patches aren't on automatically push me away... You have to do more file management... I don't think it can get the firmkey on a9lh yet... and it hasn't gotten updates recently.

I use both CFW depending of my needs and I can say, both CFWs are equaly awesome
I think that there is so much you can do with your CFWs yet <- but I have no clue what are those things so I let you to discover and no one have the right to criticize any dev for what they give priority and what feature they want to put in their projects
For all the devs -> thank you all very much for everything you did/do and share with us. YOU ARE AWESOME!!!

For the people who criticize any dev -> If you want x ou y features, wait calm to the devs to create what you want or become a dev and do for yourself!
