It seems that a lot of us have forgotten about Netflix and YouTube for our Switch. Why is it taking a while to get here lol

well, YouTube works on the Switch regardless of Nintendo allowing an app for it. Netflix on the other hand would require Nintendo to enable HDCP when Netflix is being used.

How you going to play switch games if you're watching youtube or netflix?

I tried youtube and amazon once with my Wii U to see what it was like and never used them again. Too many devices can stream those services to worry about why the switch can't do it.

It's up to the individual companies to make their own apps and submit them. Nintendo ain't going to pressure them to make the apps. Whenever they make the app and when it makes it through nintendo quality control and gets approved, that's when we'll get them I'm sure.

I am sure Netflix for the Switch is being worked on by Factor 5 as we speak.

If I was a Switch owner I would hope they add in some cool features like they did for the PS3 version.

If anyone doesn't know about it, the PS3 version had this random movie suggestion feature where it would ask you a set of questions sort of like a gameshow and would suggest a movie based on your answers. It was really cool.

there is more to it, Netflix and other video apps will want DRM in the form of HDCP to work. while the Switch hardware can do HDCP, Nintendo's OS might not have any way to utilize it. The Switch more like an early access console so who knows (other than Nintendo) what under the hood features it does not have right now.

oh yeah, they're sticklers for that. I hadn't considered they wouldn't have something like that implemented yet. Made some of my rooted devices not be able to run them for a little while. Annoying, if understandable.

Netflix hit me right where it hurts also. I had to fully unroot my two spare Galaxy S4s (as they need to be on Stock 4.4.4 for Widevine L1 but cannot run Magisk because of that) so they pass SafetyNet; Custom roms on the S4 can never to Widevine L1.
I fully unrooted and relocked my Nexus7 tablet also as i got it just for Netflix HD playback since my OnePlus Two will never do HD due to Widevine L3)

I assume Amazon and VUDU will jump on-board soon with this same practice on Android. I can just hope Crunchyroll, FUNimation, and Animelab do not follow the SafetyNet route also.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze

    Booo.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's dumb
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.

Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
