What would be really funny is if while they spend months adding obfuscation in the code to make it more difficult to reverse engineer and more code to brick other carts - the scene releases a homebrew loader and emuNAND that words off of the SD card effectively eliminating the market for 3DS carts.

I would laugh so hard at all the profits that they don't get because they were greedy f's.
The (warez) scene consists only of the rom dumping groups and Gateway, no one else. The homebrew scene could probably release a rom loader easily, but they will never do it, because they don't support piracy. It seems even a homebrew program loader is out of the question, for fear it might be modified to load roms.

So, basically, don't hold your breath for this to happen.

I know right. The Homebrew scene current have their knickers all tied up about the possible ramifications of releasing their work at the moment. Think of it as a gateway situation. Homebrew devs are working hard to ensure their work when/if released cannot be used to load roms hence the delays. Gateway are busy at work refining their brick code/AP measures hence the delays. Only difference is, homebrew devs are under no obligation to provide us with anything. They do what they do because of interest.

Problem is, Gateway is also under no obligation to provide anything. They could disappear forever tomorrow, and no one could do anything about it. When I bought the Gateway cart, I bought it knowing what it could already do with the current firmware. I didn't buy it thinking "Great, this will allow me to have multiroms on an SD card someday!". I wasn't sure it would happen, so it was just a pipe dream.

If 2.0 final comes out, great! If it doesn't, too bad! I will just carry on with my life.

exactly, you should never buy anything on what it might do, only what it CAN do :yaysp:

that way you will never get butt-hurt if a promise gets broken

Again this "the homebrew devs are against piracy" nonsense. Sure, some of them may be, but you can be certain that others among them have profited and are profiting from piracy since the release of the first flashcard. Who do you think dumped and distributed the first batch of 3ds roms online (16 games in fact)? None other than the most well known 3ds homebrew scener.

LOL, so you piss homebrewers now to get rid of your frustration about Brickway don't release the update? Seriously? You insinuate homebrewers to be pirates (with homebrewers i mean the users doing actual work. Not the "i want a homebrew warez loader plox!" users).

If you're implying that Gateway is intentionally delaying their release, then I can't think of a plausible reason that this would make sense. Every delay just alienates their current and potential customers, gives Nintendo more time to kill them, and allows more competing products to be sold. And most obviously, they need a steady flow of income to keep their operations alive, even if they supplement themselves by sending out their grandparents and children to collect recyclable cans and cardboard.

What's the point of a homebrew "scene" if they wont release a homebrew loader

They have no obligation, but they have an expectation

ok...ok...

What I do I think? the GW team make a site update one a mount, in the last mounths we have had a video, and same news about clones and innovations, but no real FW release! I think that is very hard that the FW 2.0 will be out, mmm i'm so sure that will not be out never. From a card i wanted the function MultiROM and so i have change my card, i have a MT now and i'm happy. Today i would not buy a GW card, maybe have not support, but i would buy a MT the more competitive now.....the best one NOW!
Then for new user "Not buy now a GW buy a MT, or wait for the release of the new firmware, which is very difficult!

People don't seem to understand mt card took 90% of its functions straight from gateway, and are most liekly waiting for GW to put out their update so they can copy nand saving along with whatever else

I agree! I mean, every one knows that Perrier Water took 90% of its substance straight from Evian Water and they are most likely waiting for Evian water to put out their updates so they can copy the new bottling labeling and what nots.

Basically, you appear to not be aware of certain demonstrated facts about a certain very well known 3DS homebrew dev. I won't "out" him here again, but I'm sure you can find out this information if you put some effort into it. Hint: LEGACY. Facts are facts, friend, even if they are inconvenient to your narrative.

Just because there isnt a public warez loader, doesnt mean there isnt one, same with a dumper, just cause a public software dumper isnt out there, doesnt mean it doesnt exist :)

You may be right. I think that's one of the first thing a homebrewer would try to achieve. I guess if this is the current situation, we just need an untrustworthy homebrew scener (or one of their testers/contacts) to leak it to the public.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
