My guess is that your lens are dirty, and playing lots of burned discs force it further. My Wii stopped reading discs too, and I'm pretty sure it's a lens problem. I've ordered the Wii Lens Cleaning Kit to solve the problem.. Dunno if it'll work, but if it does, I'll post here.

By the way, my original games don't work, not only backups. I don't know if that happens to you too.

This could be an issue too, good thinking Eichro. You could also shell out very little money for a USB flash drive as well, getting at least an 8GB one will allow you to have 1 game on it at a time, maybe more if you scrub it enough, or you could buy an external hdd using the money you save by pirating. Just an idea. I still say you should check out the guide I linked to a few posts up, may solve your issues.

I've personally reinstalled the cIOS quite shortly after the discs started going unreadable, to install the USB Loader properly.
I'll start using USB extensively when I get my HDD (pretty soon I hope), but still since I can't put original games on it (and am too lazy to re-download everything), and GC games won't work via USB, I just hope I can get my lens back to work.
