What is your favorite OS?

MacOS is my favourite, can't wait for Lion (10.7) releasing this week.
I usually use Windows 7 (my home PC) and sometimes Linux too, but I still prefer Mac. ^^

Arch Linux, 64-Bit

It has taught me more about Linux in general than any other distro I have used ever has. I had to install xorg, then the interface, then my programs, yeah...loved it all. I got to make it my way. Gotta love these Vanilla Distros.

I run Openbox, Gnome3+Shell and KDE (Finally got Gnome-shell to stop autoloading in KDE, yay!)

I love openbox the most though, simplistic, extensively configurable, allows you to build it how you want, and takes up less than 200MB of my 4GB of RAM.

I have everything I need

Media Player: Banshee (Plus it works with iPods and that crap)
Media Ripping/Burning: K9Copy, DVD:rip, Brasero
Office Suite: Libreoffice 3.4
Graphics Editing: Gimp
Basic Text Editor: Gedit
Wine
Gaming: Emulators and whatnot, plus Steam...Steam works on it too, thanks to Wine!
Antivirus: ClamAV
I only run Windows inside of a VM when I really need it, and that's rare in occurance outside of my SQL class in college.

Best part is I don't have to pay jack squat for any of it, and it works just as good, if not better than Windows for me.


Otherwise once in awhile I'll be using Sabayon (Based on Gentoo), or Debian (Usually Testing or Sid)

From what I've seen, the value of Linux scales to the amount of effort you put into it. MacOS is shiny and nothing else. Windows, for all it's flaws, is still the most commonly used and widely supported.

I look forward to seeing the evolution of Android in the tablet Market, as I feel tablets may rapidly take over laptops and desktops as the primary domestic computer.

Android and Chrome are both Linux kernel as their base, so they fall under as Linux.

I'm a gamer, therefore on my desktop i'm stuck on windows7 90% of the time, however i do use virtual machines alot so including those i also run xp/vista/7/ubuntu/backtrack/arch/hackintosh and pfsense (well when i restore them after my recent system rebuild anyway)

I also run arch on one netbook and backtrack 5 on another, also have ubuntu on one of my laptops.

Then of course there's the usual mobile system, i have maemo, and iOS at the moment, adding android to that within the next few days.

), I don't like Macs. I also dual-boot my Windows 7 with Ubuntu. As a tech savvy person, Linux is great to use.

Personally I pretty much despise it. That the OS itself has parts written in Java I could forgive (barely) but that it supports Java of all languages as the only one for developers to write in is insane. Having to fuck around with XML is also ridiculous. This is coming from someone who has developed applications for Android devices (and probably will again), not from someone randomly spouting bullshit about things that don't concern them.

I run all three. I use OS X on my iMac for my normal stuff as well as both Windows Vista and Ubuntu in a VM for development purposes (Windows for Windows dev, Linux for embedded systems dev). As for my netbook, I dual-boot Windows 7 and CrunchBang Linux.

OS X is my favourite because it offers a good-looking interface with a decent selection of apps and has a Unix system underneath for stuff like bash and gcc. I personally find Linux great, however it's a bit lacking in the way of commercial apps.

I've already given my opinion on the big three. On the other side, there's Android vs iOS. To cut a long story short, there are many times when I use iOS that I say things along the lines of "it's annoying I can't do this, when I can on my Android phone". Dropdown notifications (coming in iOS5), open app support (partially available now through Cydia), flash support (partially available through SkyFire and Frash), WiFi tethering (I know Cydia can provide, but it's not free, and not native), access to ROMs (I heard Cydia can do something similar to load WP7 or Android, but I've yet to find a guide)... just to name a few.

Of course, I try to be fair in my opinions by actually trying out both camps before saying anything (like how I can't comment on Chrome OS), but iOS keeps leaving me in a situation where I have to compare it to Android in a negative light. Android has its flaws too, but Android still has a lot of potential for development which I'm looking forward to. iOS is so sterile that it doesn't feel like it's changed much since its earliest iterations on iPods, and I don't see that changing even with iOS5.

Of course, that didn't stop me getting 85+ apps before finally jailbreaking my iPad 2. EDIT: And of course, I'm just an end user, who possibly has the least knowledge about the inner workings of the OSs and SDKs that devs have to work with. I'm still entitled to my opinions ;p

Recently just made the switch from Windows to Linux. I got fed up with all the slow-downs from virus scans and updates. I've played around with Ubuntu before, but the latest version. Oh. My. Goodness.. It's so freaking pretty and its super fast and not to mention stable. I've envied Mac owners for awhile but now knowing that I can get most of the same things for free? That makes me happy

I got a fresh install of windows on a separate partition really only for games and video editing when I need it. I just wish there was a VM App that could boot into that partition so I don't have to make another VM just for Ubuntu. Either way though I love it and it most likely stay as my main operating system for a long time.
