It took me a while to get to this release (I'm still under this massive game flood), but now that I have, I'm glad.

I played VP for PSX, and loved it. Totally different game, and there really hasn't been much like it since. Seeing as how that went, I was expecting something along those lines for this game. I was disappointed at first that it was an SRPG (even though I love SRPGs), since I was expecting real time battles like the PSX game. But once I started moving, and saw that there's basically "aggro" for the enemies, a Disgaea like combo system, and battles are semi-real time, I changed my mind.

For an SRPG, it's a new thing completely. It's like having the movement and grid aspect of an SRPG, but the battles of, well... VP for PSX (minus the constant run n' slash, like Odin Sphere). I haven't got to any of the advanced aspects yet (Plume and Sin), but so far, this is a nice fresh SRPG. The text is odd sometimes, but I don't think it's too distracting to the overall dialogue.

tl;dr version: If you are into SRPGs, this is a must play.

I'm pretty sure you didn't meant to flame or bother anyone, but the way you worded your opinion, giving no info about VP, made your post look a bit trollish. Sorry if I gave the impression of being offended by it, but real trolls are becoming commoner every day in GBATemp. Besides, GTA and Pokémon are two really popular franchises. Messing with them without any reason is risky.

Yeah, I've actually had this account for awhile, but I'm usually very quiet on forums. Only recently have I been speaking my opinion on such subjects xD
and You're right, GTA and Pokemon are popular, for very good reasons. They've followed a formula that is a sure-fire win everytime. Same thing for Final Fantasy. I'm a HUGE FF fan, so I guess if someone came in, replacing Pkmn and GTA with it, I'd probably jump down their throats about it too xD
Glad we've cleared up the mess though, now hopefully my true purpose for this thread can get across xD

No man, you weren't wrong or against the rules in the first place..I guess people are just nervous with all this server problems, and everything, so they probably jumped on you a bit too rough, as you see Joey Ravn realized that you didn't want to troll or flame, but only talk about some other game then GTA or Pokemon, it's really OK, and seeing as you gone trough all the effort of changing the original post, I'll just moderate previous posts that were offtopic, and that were starting the argument, and I'll make the title a bit more appropriate, but I'll leave this topic opened!

By the way, I didn't get any chance to play VP, I have some stuff to do before I get to play games freely, but it's on the top of my list "games to play", I'm really interested in this game, especially because I never played any previous ones..

Nervous? about What?! I'm not gonna blow up the server by simply stating my opinion about a game xDDD
But None the less, I'm glad I re-posted. It seems to get my point across much better than the first time, and thank you for changing the title, cleaning the thread up, etc. I really appreciate your assistance ^-^

I really do need to try and play Valkyrie Profile for the PSX. Finding a copy is probably gonna be a pain though. But totally worth it, from the praise I've heard. Plus, if it's real-time battles, I'll definitely sign up! Love me some Realtime RPG's

One of the best games that actually came out this month.

I like the fact that i have to replay it 3 times to unlock the "true" mode. If you want to call it that.

Also i like the fact that you have the choice to kill a party member or not, for a temporary boost during that fight, and to gain their skill for usage in the rest of the game.

Sure, might be abit sad that it went from 2d scroller to a Tactics kind of game, but it's not that big of a deal, since it still got it's "combo" combat from previous games.

What i didn't like was the fact that they removed all the Voice works from the game. =(

No, people are nervous about our server problems

it's nothing related to you..
All the time we're getting ISP errors, posts are being double, triple or even quadruple posted!
There are a lot of tensions on here lately, and I guess you were just unlucky to get some of those tensions from other members.....
It's all good now, and I was glad to help

After reading your first post, it made me want to play this game even more!

There's been ton of CG on the DS; they're just prerendered movies, not highly detailed 3D cinematics rendered by an engine.

damn i didn't know that the DS could handle graphics like that ( the intro almost like Wii graphics )
I know, it's actually really impressive, I wish they did it for more games, instead of them all having Anime Openings!

I must be missing them then, cause I've yet to see anything aside from 2 second openings with equal graphics, anime intro styles, which are perfectly fine, or just no intro at all xD

What actually happens if you don't make the Sin Sought quota? I have been sacrificing my dudes to fill the quota every time... I even killed that sexy MILF Natalia :"(

Then I read GameFAQs and found out that you can't get the best ending if you sacrifice anyone. Guess I will have to try again in New Game+

And any news on undubbing the voices? I personally find the English voice acting to be very decent, but I read in another thread that the Japanese version has more spoken dialogue.

its kinda weird to kill your party members but sometimes you have no choise

overall a great game

Oops i accidentally instantly sacrificed the first bloody guy because I thought I had to.

GG restarrt time.

Its certainly a decent game. I was pleasantly surprised, especially after seeing the Blue Dragon on DS (wow.....i was sick of playing FFXII:RW half way through....i dont have the will to play through what appears to be essentially the same thing again but thats off topic here).

The whole team sacrifice thing is pretty interesting though, though i havent knocked off any other then the mandatory one. Didnt even realize until yesterday that it actually changed anything if you sacrifice people, so i kinda pushed myself into the no sacrifice plot

.

Strategy wise the game is quite good too. Far above most others in the genre on DS, though i find the non-perma death (aside from ones to the plume) to make it just alittle easier then FE since people like me who hate losing any chars find FE to be the holy grail in terms of difficult games like this, even with the DS FE being a bit too easy. Most of the strategy though is based completely around just getting enough sin to get through the battle without sacrificing (unless you want to take a different plot route). That aspect does make it a bit repetitive in the long run, the "boss" fights help break up the monotony though.

The painful part of the bosses though is that they hit hard.....HARD. Nothing is more painful in this game then failing to finish/stun a boss, then they get their counter hit where they wipe out one of your chars.......THEN on their own turn they wipe out another of your chars which then causes you to have to make a hasty retreat to revive the fallen chars before trying again. You also have to PRAY they dont have/dont use heal or else be prepared to rinse and repeat the painful cycle all over again.

Started playing it. It's fun but I have one complaint so far. The menus take toooooo long to show up(Like Ally's turn or Enemy's turn). Anything can be done about this?

I have a question about the game:

Path FAQ

Reading this FAQ, i noticed that sometimes, if you use to much the Plume, the arrows lead to a "Game Over". Is that a Forced Game Over by the game or simply means that you don't have eough charachters to win the battle in Any Way?

What english VA? There's barely any in the game.

Hmmm, I haven't gotten that far into it yet, I'll definitely have to see what happens.
My guess would be that, the game ends though. Not a traditional like, Game over, but sorta like....well, I'd imagine it'd go something like
"unable to bear the burden of the Plume any longer, Our Hero drifted off into nothingness to await his fate at the hands of Death, and was never heard from again"

Something like that.

It would be like, a CRAPPY ending to the game, where as following a path actually allows you to get to a good ending in the game.
