I was originally planing on leaving but I want your guy''s opinion. I seem to be a bit attached to the site here is my routine

1) Wake up
2) Go to computer
3) Log into school
4) Log into gbatemp
5) End up waisting day helping people / having fun

I do that everyday all day except on weekends. On weekends I am mostly on skype. Now I do get out, around 3x a week actually I either meet uptown with my friend or I go for walks I sadly don't have a job yet. Now my question is. Do you think this is unhealthy. I've been thinking of leaving until E3 but if you guys think this is normal behavior let me know.

Well that depends on what you mean by 'normal'. If being on this site is getting in the way of other things that you want or need to do then that may be a problem. But if you're happy and able to do other things when you want or need to then why stress about it? I spend a lot of time here too and I think it's perfectly fine to become attached to an online community as long as it doesn't hinder face to face communications or obligations outside the site. I work and see people face to face socially on occasion. I work out and spend time with my boyfriend. But I enjoy spending time here because many of the people here are like minded, share my interests, and I find it less stressful to communicate online. I don't think that's necessarily unhealthy - it's just a different style of interaction.

5) End up [...] having fun
Well there you go. If it's not eating into your social life, work hours or family time, why the hell not spend your free time on the Temp? We're a jolly bunch.

Thanks guys, maybe you're right. I might need to find some other sites too so I do not feel "attached" to only this site which is probably why I think it is a problem lol

i come up to gbatemp whenever i feel like..
if i am doing something already like hanging out with people, either i come here the next day or when i come back home, i sit on the my chair and check gbatemp while my body is resting..
if gbatemp or other forum is taking your time away, you are using it wrong..
we are not a chat service, we do have irc but that is another part of the site.. (and irc is iddle friendly btw)
a forum doesn't require both people togheter at the same time..
you create a thread, and come back later for replies.
or you answer to a thread and later you check it for updates...
you don't need to camp here waiting for that guy answer in less than 5 minutes.. helping someone is voluunter work, it's their obligation to wait for someone with free time to answer..

but i know.. EOFing and having fun with some members is not fun when you come back the next day and the fun is over..

Yes, this is the best part. Talking fast is hard.

well look at my registration date ... i sometimes even think
"gbatemp.net" still hate all those changes ... page was a lot better years ago when there was still the nice release list with pictures and so on plus the forum looked way better :(

P.S. I had an account even before 2004 but somehow it got deleted or I forogt the login dunno ... I was there when this still was a rom page with downloads for the GBA

I can't stop browsing this site, too.
Even though I said I'd be leaving at 12 o'clock this morning, I decided to return.

You know, I won't be surprised if the police arrest me for being on something more addictive than cannabis. ^^

(What did we use before XenForo)

Read receipts are still a thing? Hopefully you can disable them if I ever have to use the service.

Anyway the worst I have ever done here is stay up a bit later because I was the only one about on IRC or because I was helping someone and saw them replying. I did once have to dash out an article in a series before a friend came over and we left for the evening. Oh and during E3 I put off watching the game of thrones series finale until the day after as I was trying to cover the conferences. Some might argue I spent rather too long here over the years but it is pretty much my "instead of TV" activity.

most services lets you disable the read thing, but the drawback is disable works both ways if you don't want the other person know you did read the message, you will not know if the other person did read yours...

My routine is more or less like OP's:

1) Wake up
2) Go to computer
3) Log into gbatemp
4) End up wasting day helping people / having fun
Alternatively
3) End up wasting day programming / playing something

I have really nothing to do since I moved (university class only starts mid-july).
My friends live on my old town.
I don't know anyone or anything in this new city.
I don't go outside.
This didn't bothered me too much, but it's getting quite annoying as I don't enjoy playing videogames or programming anymore...

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
