Hacking Weird looking 3-in-1

I just ordered a GBA sized 3-in-1 from realhotstuff.com. I had never seen one that looked like this on the internet before so I'm just posting it to see if it's a newer version or something weird. For all I know, it's the standard. Just saying I've never seen one like this on the net before.

Yeah it looks weird, but this is not done for pleasure, but to avoid a patented design.

it was either that or to save money by reducing 15% of the plastic. The M3 gba sized exp pack is like this too.

Probably that too, but the official answer to this question is to avoid patented design (words from windirt).
