The G7 countries criticized Venezuela for withdrawing the invitation to the EU to observe the presidential elections on July 28 and demanded to guarantee the rights of the opposition. The invitation to the mission was part of an agreement between the opposition and the government to guarantee the elections. The president of the organization was accused of making unilateral decisions and revoking the invitation without calling a session. The G7 also called for competitive and inclusive elections, as well as an end to harassment and the release of political prisoners. The opposition has denounced violations of the electoral guarantee agreements and persecution.
