Although I am certainly not inclined to give the people the benefit of the doubt at present I have to play "the other side" and consider that good forum runners/web developers and good PR people do not good necessarily good game developers make, indeed how many people have you met with stunning information/content running a barely modded theme to a wordpress blog and such like?

I think that the screw up here is just one example of their incompetence/half-assing nature, not the be-all, end-all.

The problem lies in where they're copy-pasting from. They completely abandoned War Inc., screwing over the player base, to cannibalize the assets and produce this as quickly (and cheaply) as possible.

As the post mentions, it's not a matter of running the game - they supposedly have more than enough cash to keep it running for a year or so. The issue isn't over making enough to keep it all going, it's about cutting and running if they can't keep boosting their paychecks. The industry may be a business, but blatantly trying to squeeze all the cash you can at the expense of your player base is bad nonetheless.

Even if the game does succeed, that's horrible customer support. Instead of going "You may not like the game now but hopefully you'll come back soon!" they go "You don't like the game so fuck you!"

They should want to draw back leaving customers with promises, not keep them tied in with threats.

That's bad. I will never buy the game just because of the customer support. That's stupid.

That is pretty much the prime example of shooting yourself in the foot. Talk about leaving customers with a bad taste in their mouths. Maybe they should take a lesson out of the Notch book and realize that games still in beta that you charge for, are going to have players who aren't completely happy with the product and people are going to request a refund. Anyone who has the testicular fortitude to even charge full price for an unfinished product and then refuse a refund because the game isn't getting proper update support, deserves to lose their business.
