ive been reading up on the methods for installing homebrew software on a virgin 4.3, and i need some help clarifying a few things.

The first guide i read said to use smashhack or indianapwns to first load up the hackmii installer to install hbc/bootmii. The another one said that i must first use trucha bug restore apps before doing anything else.

Which is the correct method?? I just want to install bootmii & hbc, then the cios38_rev20.

Get the homebrew channel on first. Smashstack if you have a ntsc wii or Indiana if it's a pal one. Then go from there.

So for just installing bootmii/hbc, i dont have to worry about the whole trucha thing?

Every method I've seen for restoring the trucha bug is launched from the homebrew channel. That's why I said do that first then go from there, also give a look at modmii sticky at the top of the page.

I went through all the options on the modmii, and when its downloading the files, it freezes, always at different parts. Went through it a couple times.

Did you extract it from the zip before running? Also you need .net framework too.

ModMii does that to me as well (if I get it to run...). Kinda frustrating since quite a few guides I use have been replaced by links to it...

Try this guide instead: http://gbatemp.net/t171901-modify-any-wii-4-3-below You can't go wrong with this one.
