I've written a long response, but I figured it'd be better if we just agree to disagree here. Different cultures, different areas.
It's not a matter of culture. In fact, I study *your culture* at University, I'm very much familiar with it. It's a matter of tolerance for ignorance, which I lack.

If there is one thing that I hate about this issue then it is the parents who have the nerve to drop off the responsibility of raising their children onto television and video games. Whenever "something" happens, it's *never* the parents fault. They "didn't know". Well, if they were better parents who actually did their duties then they probably would.
Yes, you study our culture without living in it at university in Poland. You are definitely subjected to a different culture if you think giving a video game to a minor, an American, under 18, is harmful in the same vein as giving marbles to a newborn.

To be fair, there's a good amount of people from our own culture who think along those lines.

somehow it's not difficult for them to assume that a porno or a holocaust movie is not entirely beneficial for their 4 years old kid, how come the exact same principle doesn't work when it comes to games?
I swear non-gamers think that games are still like Pac-Man and Space Invaders regardless of what's on the cover. My non-gamer sister-in-law was apparently shocked to hear the word 'shit' in Uncharted 3 despite the fact that a) the game is rated 15 in the UK and b) she was the one who bought it.

That reminds me of my mother before my brother showed her Ico and Animal Crossing last year. She had no idea that the games she had authorized my brother to play were violent... Although that's because he somehow convinced her that angry idiot moms ran the ESRB and M meant the moms were angry that Mario stomped on goombas.

And now she's so at home with games that she's playing Mass Effect right now and succeeding.

won't do shit no one even looks at these they have worse labels and disturbing medical shit on smoke packets here but people still smoke :creep:
It's scientifically proven that warning labels on tobacco products raise their sales and the "graphic" photographs actually engage the... so-called "pleasure lobe" in the brain. Paradoxical but true.

If the child was successful in convincing a grown-up to his claims despite the fact that they were ridiculous then I'd say he's grown up enough, lol.

What the government would say about this: You play violent video games, therefore your wish to beat the people running your country is because your mind as ingested violent acts.
What common sense would say about this: LOLOL SO WAIT, IF I SEE A GUY GET KILLED BECAUSE OF AIDS DOES THIS MEAN I WANT TO KILL DOCTORS BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T KILL THE AIDS

Or it could just be that my mother acts more like a child than an adult...

I ordered her one of those electronic bubble wrap keychains the first time I ever had the chance to order things from the internet with my own money and she has it to this day and plays with it everywhere she goes. She'll be in line at the grocery store and be popping away incessantly until someone tells her she's annoying them. She also tends to drift down the toy isle at the local dollar store just to look at the coloring books and claims she went down that isle to see if there was a Rubik's Cube for sale.

Oh, and she's always done this. We (me, my brother, and my father) think she has undiagnosed ADD or ADHD.

Is this such a bad thing? It might stop idiotic parents buying GTA, COD etc for their 12 year olds.

I would agree if these labels were ONLY on the violent or sexualized games. This jackass wants the label on every video game from Sesame Street's Non-violent Counting Adventure to GTA 7: More Hot Coffee Edition

Hah, I played GTA when I was 4, and I'm not violent at all. most of the time I just drove around in cars though :)

I also played the most violent game of all: MARIO. THE IDEA OF STOMPING ON TURTLES AMUSES ME, MWAHAHAHA
all joking aside, I didn't even realise they are turtles. they were just koopas, goombas or enemies in my book :P

So I don't believe sh*t about aggresive behaviour being linked to games.

I just don't understand, I'm strictly a pacifist, and I honestly love GTA, Man Hunt, etc. Mainly because it's not real, I'll just assume one thing: Everyone who actually adopted behavior from these games were obviously whacked hard enough in the forehead in the middle of their game. I say that because enough damage to the frontal lobe of the brain alters judgement. :teach:

That reminds me! When I was a kid, I thought ClayFighter for the SNES was extremely violent and by playing it (even though my parents allowed me to) I was being a bad kid. Years later, I realized that what I was doing with some clay figures in art class was just about the same thing as ClayFighter.

It was also around that time that I realized that one of the guys from Clayfighter 63 1/3 was saying "CLUCK YOU!" and other things that sounded borderline offensive.

AW HELL NAW!

I think the ESRB/PEGI/CERO logo is enough!

Those logos are B***S***, the US's esrb is the worst. They don't have an M15 catagory so a lot of stuff is lumped wrongfully into too strict of a rating or not strict enough.

I've also herd all the Developers hate the rating systems because they have to pay for that sticker on their games and they have to fill out the form which determines which rating they get.
