Not happening, FF5 was never released officially for the SNES in English, so Nintendo can't publish it on the VC

What about Sin and Punishment? Was that ever released officially in English? I could've swore I bought it in the US Wii VC.

Nope, that actually was a first.

But the game was not text-heavy, so they went on and translated it. Also, there is the important fact that the game was a first-party game, developed directly by Nintendo together with Treasure.

Instead, this one belongs to Square-Enix now, so it'd be them that would have to translate it first, and I highly doubt that they're gonna do it

That's a special case. The game got a partial translation for the VC release, however, S&P is a Nintendo owned IP, and since the VC is by Nintendo they can do whatever the hell they want.
Not the same case with FFV.
Everyone could just get the rom and play it on that Wii SNES emulator anyway.

Along with hideous facial portraits that were so terrible to look at I decided to go back to the SNES version...
