Therefore, I'm happy to announce Vanguard will be the next in line of our AAA games to make [the FtP] transition.

First Everquest 2, then DCUO, then Everquest 1, and now Vanguard. SOE's having some trouble, turning all their P2P games into FtP.
Still, personally, I'm not going to be getting back into it. It's just too much like every other MMO, nothing unique about it.

Right, I meant there were having trouble making profits with their P2P methods, which is why they are turning so many of their P2P games into FtP. They aren't having trouble with FtP, EQ2 is making more profits now than it has since it first launched

Quiet, don't tell Funcom, they think their 2005-like in every way game The Secret World can survive on a $15/month plan with a $60 purchase price to boot. Plus, they still are trying to convince us that Age of Conan is worth $15/month. True, AoC may be FtP now, but they still try to convince us it's worth $15/month.

I have a feeling that TSW as well as SWTOR will be free to play within the next year. Hell, even WoW, the highest grossing MMO in history is taking a massive drop is subscribers.

Pretty much, yea. When I played it years ago, the chat was pretty much nothing but bashing the game, saying EQ2/WoW/whatever else was better.

It's harder for consumers to argue with the price of free; it looks like one more developer has accepted that.

I'd never even heard of the game until this bit of publicity, so... I guess it's a success already, then.
