So what does "Devolution" do?

Can it help read Gamecube backups with Black Wiis?
Devolution can run Gamecube games in Wii mode, but it requires that you dump+verify the physical disc yourself, so it cannot be used for piracy.

Pirating? What a low opinion you have of me!
Well, that's the only thing that MIGHT be considered a disadvantage of Devolution as opposed to the other available options. Unfortunately, there ARE a lot of people who complain about it so it just kinda comes as the automatic response when describing it.

maybe a more complete description of available methods to play GameCube on Wii.
For all of the methods described bellow, remember that you need:
1. A Wii with Gamecube support (Controller and memory card hardware) except for last two methods.
2. A Wii with DVD-R capability if you want to play from DVD-R.

Modchip : Various manufacturers
- Plays retail and backup disc as if it was a retail disc.
- Some modchips are compatible with audio streaming, some aren't.

MIOS : Official MIOS from Nintendo.
- Plays retail discs from Disc Channel or launched from game loaders.
- Plays backup Disc from Disc Channel or launched from game loaders if you have a compatible modchip

cMIOS : Custom MIOS from Wiigator
- Plays backup discs launched from Disc Channel
- Plays backup discs launched from "GameCube Backup Launcher", a Gamecube loader which let you select the game to launch from a multi-game disc. Allows disc switching between two ISOs from the same disc, if you don't have a modchip.
- I don't know about Audio Streaming games

Swiss : Gamecube homebrew from Emu_Kidid.
- This is a GameCube homebrew utility, launched in GameCube mode.
- Launch GameCube homebrew from SDGecko/Wode/Wiikey Fusion
- Plays backup disc, multi-game Disc from DVD-/+R
- Plays backup ISO from SD gecko/IDE-EXI adapter
- Can swap disc in-game
- I don't know about Audio Streaming games
- Website : http://www.gc-forever.com/forums/portal.php

DIOS MIOS : MIOS from Crediar
- Plays retail disc from Disc Channel or launched from game loaders (Requires a FAT32 USB drive attached to the Wii)
- Plays backup disc from Disc Channel or launched from game loaders, if you have a modchip. (Requires a FAT32 USB drive attached to the Wii)
- Plays backup ISO from USB drives launched from game loaders
- Supports 1:1 Full ISO, compressed ISO (scrubbed), Extracted File System format.
- Doesn't support Audio streaming (yet?) when playing from ISO.
- Supports Cheat code with Ocarina using NMM (No More Memory)
- Partial Memory Card emulation
- Various patches available (video, widescreen, cheatcode, Screenshot, etc.)
- Supports only GameCube controllers (no Classic Controller, Wiimote, HID) because it runs in GameCube mode.
- Website : http://code.google.com/p/diosmios/

DIOS MIOS Lite : MIOS from Crediar
- Plays retail disc from Disc Channel and game loaders (Requires SD card in front SD slot?)
- Plays backup disc from Disc Channel or launched from game loaders, if you have a modchip. (Requires SD card in front SD slot?)
- Plays backup ISO from SD Card launched from game loaders
- Supports 1:1 Full ISO, compressed ISO (scrubbed), Extracted File System format.
- Doesn't support Audio streaming (yet?) when playing from ISO.
- Supports Cheat code with Ocarina
- Partial Memory Card emulation using NMM (No More Memory)
- Various patches available (video, widescreen, cheatcode, Screenshot, etc.)
- Supports only GameCube controllers (no Classic Controller, Wiimote, HID) because it runs in GameCube mode.
- Website : http://code.google.com/p/diosmios/

Devolution : Wii and vWii homebrew from Tueidj
- Works on WiiU !
- Runs in Wii mode, doesn't use MIOS at all. (can co-exists on Wii with one of the MIOS based loader)
- Plays backup ISO from front SD or USB drives launched from HBC or from compatible game loaders.
- Require 1:1 full ISO
- Audio streaming game compatible
- No Cheat code support
- Full Memory card emulation
- Require Retail disc for game verification process (one time verification, game is linked to current Wii/HDD, or Wiimote/HDD since r200)
- Doesn't work with some modchip.
- Compatible with a lot of controllers (PS3, Classic Controller, Wiimotes, etc.)
- Website/thread on gbatemp : http://gbatemp.net/threads/devolution-public-release.330554

Nintendont : Wii and vWii homebrew from Crediar
- Works on WiiU !
- Runs in Wii mode, doesn't use MIOS at all. (can co-exists on Wii with one of the MIOS based loader)
- Require ISO format (not extracted format)
- Plays backup ISO from SD Card launched from HBC or from compatible game loaders
- Supports 1:1 Full ISO, compressed ISO (scrubbed), (No Extracted File System format).
- Doesn't support Audio streaming yet
- Supports Cheat code with Ocarina
- Partial Memory Card emulation using NMM (No More Memory)
- Compatible with GameCube controller on Wii, and with HID compatible USB controller on WiiU (PS3, Standard USB controllers, etc.)

maybe I forgot some other methods?

Actually, there are some older black Wii's that DO have those ports. The problem is that the cMIOS that he's looking at is one for reading DVD-R backups of GC games and the black (and red) Wii's came out right when Nintendo took the DVD-R reading ability out of Wii drives so he can't run GC games in THAT way

but you're right, as long as he has the ports he still might be able to use DM(L) (which is kind of a cMIOS) or Devolution.

I wanted one that can read burn disc But I am lucky since this black wii was last on shelf before new wii came out(no NGC)。゚(゚ノД`゚)゚。

So I stumbled upon this problem today.
I have been using the same USB to have my wii games there.
However, now that I try to add in the PC a new game via WGM, the game doesnt show up in the list of games in USB loader GX. I even deleted a game in WGM, and it stills show up in the USB loader GX game menu. I have been using FAT32 as the partition, and I could add/delete games fine, until now.

It seems that USB loader GX isnt 'refreshing' the list.

Any help would be appreciated.

Don't worry, if you are seeing other Wii games, then I think the only ''problem'' is that you either have favorites enabled [it's the star icon (most of the times)] or you are using categories.
In the first case the new game doesn't show cause it it not rated yet, in the latter cause you might have the ''All'' category unchecked. If you categorize that game and that category is enabled, it will show along with the rest. Any game belongs to the ''All'' category by default.

Coincidentaly, USBL GX has an option to ''highlight new games'' in its gui settings, you should tick that too, it helps locate newest additions :)

=========================================================================

BTW, i've been meaning to mention some of my findings by constant usage. Most, if not all of them are already known to ''GX veterans'', but could prove helpful to people that are now starting to use or just switched to this loader:

1.A tip that really helped me avoid ANY kind of codedump, lag or crash on GX for WEEKS now. I use a custom skin i made as well as music playback. Both of these were heavy on the resources, as when i had banner mode at the same time and quickly scrolled my games (which are a lot), GX lagged in showing banners or sometimes froze, due to multiple things enabled at once by me (music, banners and skin). I at the time had all files in my SD card.

Now i have cached banners and covers on my HDD and all other files (GX codes, music, themes, languages) on my SD. I also have my mp3s coded @ 128kb, with small names and with no ID3 tags. Needless to say, GX is much MUCH faster now, as doesn't ''bottleneck' by my SD cards read speed when i scroll fast. It also doesn't ''choke'' by my HDD reading more than 2 things (banners/covers and games) at once.

2. I have GX showing all my games and apps at once (NAND channels, GC games, Wii games, Wiiware and VC from emunand). There was an issue however. When using a forwarder of an emulator or a forwarder of an app (WiiMC) and loading those forwarders via GX, the emus and app would only see my SD card, not my HDD. I bypassed this, by booting the same emus and WiiMC via GX's homebrew browser, now they see both SD and HDD.

3. You can have Wii booting directly into GX by placing this in the root of your SD card and setting Priiloader to boot into installed channel (point it to the GX's forwarder you use). It reduces waiting time to get into your games by a LOT. In my case, it's 31 seconds to autoboot to and finish loading of GX vs 54 seconds, to boot into menu and then select GX forwarder and wait for it to load.

4. By using this you can make you own skin and customize it completely to your liking: which icons show up and in which mode, you can configure WHERE they will be at the screen at each mode (bannergrid, 2D, list etc.) as well as their size and logo, have backgrounds of your own for each mode, configure color and size of text, names and clock etc etc.

Lastly, a shout-out to all the people who made USBL GX and especially Cyan. I'm personally now set at r1211 as it is doing everything perfect for me and my collection. I want to once again THANK YOU for all the hard work.

Thanks for the help, but unfortunately, im still not seeing the new game :(
Also I find it odd that I can still see the channel of the game I deleted (and even displays the animation). When I click on play, it returns me to the wii menu, so its clearly that its not on the USB anymore.

Im guessing it might be an USB problem?

If booting the HBC channel from the NAND mode doesn't work (really, in never tried it), then you can hide it.
There's a way to hide channels selectively. You should do it for other unused channels (such as channels without banner, USBLoaderGX channel etc.)
Can you add an option to filter which are the channels that I want to dump into the VirtualNAND?

1-Read RealNAND
2-Show Channels
3-Select Channels
4-Build VirtualNAND

You want a way to copy the content of a channel from RealNAND to EmuNAND? dumping only a channel+corresponding save instead of the full nand.
yes it's possible. I can add the option to copy to EmuNAND.

If this happens, yeah it seems like it is HDD related. At this case, you could you try to back up your HDD and reformat it (fat32 is the best option imho).

Hi! Not sure if I'm posting this in the right thread or whatever. I have a question that i cant seem to find an answer to. I've been installing wiiware and VC games using wad manager and then copying the channels to my sd card using the normal wii os. Now I've been using USB Loader GX and I've got it set up to show my Wii backups from my external USB HDD and my GC backups from my SD card. Now, my question is how can I set it up to also show not only the wads I've installed and transferred to my sd card but also the emulators and homebrew apps on my SD card that I've been loading thru the homebrew channel. What I'd like to do is have it so i can just load up usb loader gx and have access to all games. Maybe even set it up to auto-load into usb loader gx when i start my wii (which i just read about a little while ago). Sorry if I'm not giving enough info. Please let me know what additional info is needed. Thanks for your time and any effort. xD

Homebrew can't see and run the games that the normal Wii system menu transfers to the SD card. What you CAN do is you can set up an emuNAND and install all those games on THERE and THAT can show up in a backup loader like GX.

I see. I tried doing the full dump thru usb loader gx and it crashed, i think my card may have run out of space during the process. ive since deleted the nand folder that popped up on the root since cause all the channels on there didnt look right, like they were missing banners and titles and stuff. how much space should i have clear for the emunand?

Well, the NAND chip on your Wii is 512mb so if you're NAND is full (very few blocks left) it might take about that much space.

Well thank you very much sir. You've been very helpful! I'll be sure to come back if i hit any more roadblocks. xD

Hey there, I'm back, heh. Well I've got my emunand set up and its showing the wads ive installed on it but im having issues with alot of wads. Some of the wads install onto the emunand without a hitch but most of them will install and when i go to look at their channel its blank with a 4 letter title and my wii crashes when i load one up. Well, I think it crashes. I was up pretty late doing this and it's a little fuzzy, lol. Am I doing something wrong or is it not compatible with some wads or something. BTW I havent tried VC games yet, just WiiWare. Thanks again in advance.

Just an update, I tried using showmiiwads to install the games to my emunand and it's working great. No problems with any wads/channels. Thanks for all the help. ^^
