So I noticed that when trying to bring up the cheats file for Monster Hunter Tri (U) (from the update function), the UI goes partially unresponsive. The cheats window never pops up, and while I can click on buttons other than "ocarina", nothing happens.

I originally thought it was due to the size, but larger cheat files load just fine, and even trimming the Monster Hunter cheats file down to like 1/4th size didn't fix it. Idunno' which code(s) the parser is choking on though.

Is that way for a reason... I read this somewhere but do not remember where...

Is there some sort of code type it doesn't work with? I noticed a very large number of multiple-choice codes, but Animal Crossing has tons of those as well (every slot for every player's inventory and closet), and those seem to work just fine, and I suppose Animal Crossing would have more items than Monster Hunter.

Should I just try cutting out all the inventory and wildcard codes?

Hmm.. If remember correct.. reason ocarina is freeze in MHTri is because people will 1hit-KO monsters online and make game not as good... something like that.. But now that MHtri servers are gone ....

Monster Hunter has BILLIONS of codes, that cheat code list is so huge that you need to wait 5minutes until all of them are loaded! just be patient and it will finally load.
ok, not billion, but enough to make the loade hang until all of them are loaded.

I recommend you go to GeckoCodes website, select the one you want to enable and create the .gct online.
Put that gct file in your sd/codes/ folder, enable the ocarina in the game setting.

yeah, I understand what you want, and I agree it would be easier/convenient.
I don't know if I can speed up the loading process.

If you don't mind exiting the loader to launch another homebrew to edit the codes and generate the gct, there are these ones:
Code Downloader: only used to download the .txt file in /txtcodes/ for WiiCM or CheatManager (you can do it with GX, but GX try to open it right away and hang until loaded).
WiiCM : convert txt to gct. 500 max cheats.
Cheat Manager: convert txt to gct. up to 64kb txt file
MegaCodeDownloader: can download and convert to gct.(unusable in current release)
AccioHack: Can download, edit and convert. 900 codes limit.

Maybe CheatManager will work with Monster Hunter, as it support big file and monster hunter has more than 33 000 codes.

This page was found in the "completesg" web site which tells you how to mod your Wii. It tells of a creature called "cMIOS."

Now, as a firm believer that the modder that built this site is "adept" because of the detailed and concise instructions, I would also count on it to be updated with the times. Can I use this cMIOS to play Gamecube backups on a black Wii, or do I also need to use an older Wii?

Thanks.

Nope, older Wii needed.

As an explanation... the newer Wiis lack Gamecube controller ports and memory card slots.

No softmod can fix that. :P
Actually, there are some older black Wii's that DO have those ports. The problem is that the cMIOS that he's looking at is one for reading DVD-R backups of GC games and the black (and red) Wii's came out right when Nintendo took the DVD-R reading ability out of Wii drives so he can't run GC games in THAT way

but you're right, as long as he has the ports he still might be able to use DM(L) (which is kind of a cMIOS) or Devolution.

So what does "Devolution" do?
Can it help read Gamecube backups with Black Wiis?
The three have a fairly function.
- DiosMios (DM) is to run GC games off of a USB drive.
- DiosMiosLite (DML) can run GC games off of an SD card.
- Devolution can do both and actually has more features BUT you have to "install" the game ISO the first time you use it on the same Wii by showing it you have the original retail disk.
