There is. I'm unsure of it, but when something is requested by the 3DS, it is sent to an encrypted page that only the 3DS is allowed to use. If accessed in a browser, you get a "Permission Denied" error.

no you need a cert

it is stored in the nand of the 3ds I think it is sys/dev.kp but I am not sure edit: no it was not sys/dev.kp

add: the updates and encrypted 3ds ware titels can be downloaded encrypted from the nus but we don't have the key to decrypt them.
