Gaming URGENT!! Windows Will Not Start Up!

Alright GBAtemp, I need some help quickly. My laptop was working fine as of yesterday night, but when I tried to boot it up today, it would fail to start up. It'd try boot into Windows, only to BSOD and instantly restart when at the 'Starting Windows' screen with that loading bar. It ran on Windows Vista Ultimate, a Toshiba Satellite that's about 4 years old. I have no idea what's going on, but I need this issue resolved as soon as possible...

Update: It's likely not a hardware failure, as I booted into a Ubuntu Live CD and could access my Windows drive's contents from there.

Update 2: The BSOD error says something was changed about Windows, and it wouldn't let me boot into it to 'prevent further damage'. Error 0x0000007B.

Update 3: I tried booting in with the 'boot with last known succesful boot options' or whatever function, and now it's giving me that Windows is not genuine. Security Essentials got de-activated, and it's telling me to validate my Windows copy. I've used the laptop for four years, no such problems, and I can fucking guarantee the damn thing is genuine. Purchased straight from Future Shop. Now what?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried going into Safe Mode and seeing what you can do from there?

Sounds like either the mobo is fried or the hard drive is failing.

Either way, it's probably time to retire that old thing.

Without further knowledge of error i recommend this. Repair the bootloader, see what happens.

Startup Repair didn't do anything. Safe Mode doesn't boot up.

Can't read it, it flashes for a second before instant reboot. Unless there is a way to fiddle with the settings without booting into Windows, I cannot read it.

Yeah i just worked on one last week that did the same thing and it was just iastor.sys driver. Try hitting f8 when you turn on the PC and see if you can get into a windows option screen. On the option screen it should have the option to "Disable auto-reboot on system error" if it does select that and let the system get the BSOD and take a pic of that screen. If you cant get that see if you just video the blue screen.

The PC worked on that had the BSOD even using the option to do a factor reinstall did not help cause onc it was done it would get the BSOD again.


Oh on a side note before you do a reinstall if there are any pics or any other files you want to save you can use a linux live CD like Ubuntu to back them up to something else before you attempt to reinstall the OS

Alright, I'll try to get the BSOD error...

Update though, it shouldn't be a hardware failure. I booted into a Ubuntu Live CD (well, Live USB) and could access everything in my Windows drive from there.

Bootrec.exe
/Fixboot
Bootrec.exe
/Fixmbr

Woohoo!! After resetting the boot settings to default, I booted into Safe Mode. Performed a System Restore, got an error saying my Windows isn't genuine. Verified the Windows copy (yay for serial key at the bottom of laptop), and everything seems to be running again. Thanks everyone! =D
