I have a PSP-2000 currently sitting on firmware 6.39 ME-9.7. Should I upgrade my firmware and install a new CFW? Are there any additional features that I can use on newer CFW?

You may as well update to 6.60 PRO C or 6.60 ME 1.8 (and use the cIPL flasher) just to ensure you're all up to date. The firmware you're using is over a year old and just checking it seems that it boasts less compatibility than the current firmwares.

Ultimately anything that has a changelog that shows 8 stages of bug correction for the initial release isn't something that i tend to recommend. ME firmwares seem hacked together to me...think of Neur0n as a mad scientist.

Going with PRO you won't need to worry.

I can confirm the above, at least during the earlier stages of ME. It was CIPL-only, took a while for it to get a version that would work on later models, etc.
That's not to say the guy doesn't know what he's doing, but he initially made the ME series for himself and other devs for experimentation, he ported a couple of plugins to 6.x and such.

Compare it to PRO, which is focused on standard users.

I guess ME would be like a bleeding-edge repository linux distro, while PRO is like a current-year version of ubuntu?

Your options depend on the model, but generally nowadays if you run the CFW installer it gives an uninstall option that'll put you back on a clean OFW.

i run 6.60 me-1.6, worth upgrading to pro c? (if it is an upgrade at all)
i have this firmware well over a year now and i was wondering if it was outdated or not.
i am also into emulators on psp , if an upgraded version would improve perfomance then i am all for the next version :P

dont have any problems with it currently the only thing would be that sometimes my music gets corrupted for no reason, i think the firmware is to blame not sure.
thought i'd post it here rather then making a new topic about it.

ME 1.8 would be the logical update for you, but surprise surprise, it's just a bug fix. You're not missing much where you are, although if you want to take advantage of online multiplayer then PRO C is the logical choice (I think C2 may still be buggy wrt PSX gaming)

As for things corrupting....look to your memory stick being fake/on it's way out.
