i once read that the updates in discs are in wad format..(correct me if i'm wrong)

so cant we like, install those updates normally through the wad installer?

would be much easier to fix semi bricks

If this was true, then we would be open to custom firmwares and whatnot.
That sounds pretty delicious.
Someone needs to look into this.

I have been wondering about this forever. You can see plain as day everything _sys folder of a game has nothing but .WAD files in it. The channels, the ISO updates, and the system updates.

What is stopping us from custom firmwares and replacing broken firmware?
Does the Wii have some built in CRC checker that checks if the files are indeed official.
I mean we have the firmware and wads decrypted now don't we?

would a custom firmware be able to read backups? or are modchips the only possible way of ever doing that?
I don't think they would be able to due to the DVD drive's firmware and copyright protection.
I'm pretty sure that is why the PS2 and Xbox couldn't play backups right from a CD/DVD without some sort of swap trick or booting off a hard drive.

The xbox has a softmod which allows for backups to be played directly.

So that means if we do hack the Wii, there is a possibility of a way to play backups without a modchip.
It'll take a lot of work and time, but hopefully this can all be done.

Well, we flashed teh internal nand of the PSP from the menu. I believe it can be done, but as ANY kind of flashing is done, it is ALWAYS dangerous.
