Is is possible to update the pokemon X & Y game rom with gateway?
There was a crusial bug that need to be fixed i thought. And once they update is installed, will it be installed on the SD cart? or the actual rom? The reason i want to know is to know if i have to make a backup of the updated game or now.

Thanks in regards

To update the game , as with all the games with updates , you have to go to the e-shop and just download the updates, which are then installed and stored on the 3ds sd card. The cards and roms can never be updated , as they are Read Only Memory . The only think being updated , is a small chip where the saves are stored.

You just don't save in Lumoise City unless you're in a building, it's not hard to avoid the bug.

small chip? the diference is, update data is stored on the sd card and the console reads that extra data and uses it while playing
no special chip involved >:C

So it is possible to connect to - e-shop and download updates?

Using Gateway Omega 2.1, yes it is possible to use a 7.1 EmuNAND to access the eShop and download updates and other stuff.
EmuNAND mode (Classic Mode on the Gateway launcher) still does not require actually owning a Gateway3DS even on Omega 2.1.

An Emulated NAND (EmuNAND) is a copy of your 3DS hardware NAND Flash. With GW Omega you can load your EmuNAD and then proceed to update it from the settings application on the 3DS. Be sure to follow the instructions posted on gbatemp carefully.

No offense, but why don't you put in a little effort and find the answers yourself? You've opened up so many new threads asking questions that are easily answered with a small amount of effort on your part. Do you just prefer to be spoon-fed? We've all been in your position, but we've also put in the work to find the answers ourselves from time to time :)

Its just it could be so much easier if it is conveyed in a personal way.
And sometimes the given descriptions are not sufficient. Sorry for that! Thanks a lot btw for the replies.

anyway so I have to see it like the firmware is being copied, a like windows 8. And a separate untouched windows is there, and one that can be modified.

now my question is, how do you actually update it?

Because this is very very very sensitive. I don't want to end up bricking my system or gateway unusable..

Im just scared that's why I want to hear it from somebodies mouth in clear steps..

I want to acces E-shop soo.. then I would have to do this emunand thingy...

I read the thing.. but I am so confused.. scared to update wrongly..

There should be a vid tut or something..

EmuNAND Classic and normal.
When you do Nintendo DS profile when you have the red gateway 3ds card+ SD card in.

is this when u acces the emunand classic?

Is it now safe to update my 3ds? because Nintendo ds profile puts it into this other "mode"

Do I understand this correctly? or am I bricking my device?

Classic mode is if you have retail carts that you want to play. Regular emuNAND is for playing ROMs.

Ok. so I have my system NAND backup to my pc.

according to this I do this... except.. there is no such option prepare emunAND option???

  1. Launch GateWay menu again, select "Prepare EmuNAND" option and wait for the process to complete.
Attention: This step will format the SD card and delete everything on it. Be sure to backup your SD card to PC before doing it.
  2. Exit the menu (by selecting the first icon BootGateway).
Note: If you get stuck on the grey scanline screen, shutdown and reboot in GateWay mode (without L).
    You are now in EmuNAND!
