I stopped updating my Wii when Nintendo started disabling homebrew last year sometime... 3.1 maybe? I've noticed lots of actual useful stuff has been added as well as them attempting to disable homebrew. How can I safely add these features and get my wii up to date without risking disabling anything or bricking? I'm just really wary of running any updates now, my Wii works great!

My Wii has HackMii, starfall, the homebrew channel, wad manager and the usb loader installed.
Cheers!

Go download bannerbomb. Use it to install bootmii as boot2 and bootmii/ios. Back up your nand with bootmii. Follow one of the many guides on gbatemp for safe updating to 4.0 and keeping trucha bug intact. Play around, experiment, and if anything F's up, you can just restore your self back to your current nand contents with bootmii.
