I would like to know this as well. is emunand only for eshop or do I need it for future ROMs too?
I don't need to use streetpass or eshop, is it okay if I don't make a emunand?
seeing "OMG update gong wrong" thread everywhere is making me nervous

It's unknown whether the games that come out in the future will be able to run on 4.x system menu and software, however, the current 5.x roms are playable in the 4.x firmware in gateway mode, using their 2.0 software. The emuNand is kinda future proof because say a game comes out that needs 6.x to run, well you can already run gateway red card in GW 6.x so you should be able to run that game, and we shoudl be able to getget emunand working with system software above 6.x, so if a game needs a higher version, you should be able to emulate the newer version and play.

About OP's problem.. Why don't you just install a hardware nand flasher and flash your NAND.BIN that you backed up before you formatted your emunand?

I believe Zelda worked without having to do anything involving the EmuNAND. And that was a game based on a 5.X SDK.

I made a post in that same topic and yes Zelda works just fine without EmuNAND. I am hoping that if they release games with 6.X SDK, Gateway will be able to find a way to patch them like they did with Zelda. I think EmuNAND will be almost useless after the next firmware update anyway because you wouldn't be able to access the eshop on 6.3. I am fairly certain the Gateway team would have to bypass any protection on that new firmware to allow you to update your EmuNAND to the latest number.

Not knowing what is going to happen kinda drives ya crazy huh?

You could ask around if someone from your region is willing to do it. Since a lot of tempers did the mod, your chances are high of finding someone who can do it.

can i please ask a question about this damn emunand method. do you really need it to play latest games ? the reason why i was updating is because i read a on the forum someone saying you will need nandemu if you want to play future v5+ games. is this true ?

It isnt Needed, Laucher has required Patches for SDK 5.x games work, its just an icon location thing,
Same Roms will play regardless in GW Mode (RealNAND, EmuNAND - Updated and Non Updated)
EmuNAND is mainly for Classic Mode for retail games and eShop only, The reason it updated is cause you went to Eshop, you went back to RealNAND, and updating through the eShop then will update the RealNAND, You arent the first to do it and probably arent the last :)

EmuNAND should update fine to next version, as its identical to original NAND, just patching on the fly, I can definately seee them adding new flags for things though to try and stop it

Regretfully it seems you didn't follow the instruction by the letter. When you left the system settings, you reverted back to System NAND, which was subsequently updated via eshop. You needed to update via the settings.

You can probably find someone to do a hardware flash for you; look for repair shops that specialise in jailbreaking. Well, technically a lot of people can probably do it for you, but you don't want them asking too many questions obviously.

    @Xdqwerty, Exactly.

Why not they just mine Monero instead of scamming vulnerable people? If they have a decent machine they can hit a jackpot at any given time.

Technically, cryptocurrencies aren't illegal, as long as you don't use it for criminal activity. If you sign up with an exchange, and that they get a tip from law enforcement, they have the right to freeze your assets.

Nigeria's central bank did make crypto illegal before, until last year they lifted the ban. Always make sure to check before you exchange. ;)

@SylverReZ, speaking of crypto i remember reading about a guy who spend like 10 grand bitcoin on a couple pizzas (when bitcoin wasnt as worthy as nowadays)
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's mental. If he had saved up when Bitcoin sky-rocketed in price, then he might've become the next Jeff Bezos for all I know.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, he couldnt know the price was gonna skyrocket anyway
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, Then it dropped sometime in 2022, 2021 was when it really went up in price.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, I also recall watching a video of some failed games with their own crypto currency or smth like that, lemme link it to you (it's in spanish tho)

@Xdqwerty, I remember that. Didn't Steam ban games with NFTs before somehow devs managed to circumvent it? Think EA tried to dabble in NFTs too.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Glad to hear people realise that NFTs aren't worth it these days. They realise that they're JPEGs hosted on a file-hosting site like AWS or Google Drive.
