Hacking Update Hard Moded Wii?

Just wondering .. I just got a wii with a hard mod already in it so i don't know what name or type it is. Am i able to still get updates with it or no? It has v 4.2u on it right now. Also when i goto play one of my backups it says: ( In order to use this software you must prerform a wii system update ) am i safe to do this or no? .... Thanks For Any Help You May Have.

Use ModMii it will update IOS, SM, and install brick and update protection

Get HBC installed and then install Priiloader. You can enable the "block disc updates" hack and remain at 4.2 if you're happy with that. IF the game has an IOS update you can run MMM (MultiModManager) from HBC and update your IOS's individually
